I just wanted to tell a little bit about my wedding in Jamaica which was such a wonderful experience. I came down with my fiance from Manhatten, we settled in at the Sandals Ocho Rios. We were a little suprised that it was smaller than we expected but it was cute. We settled in immediately with two Bob Marley drinks which are in the Rasta colours and have different types of liquor. The drink has grenadine at the bottom, creme de menthe in the middle and banana liqour at the top which makes it red, green and yellow. It was delicious and very welcome after the long drive from the Montego Bay airport. The room was beautiful and comfy with an awesome view of the ocean. We also had jerk chicken at the grill on the beach, which was my fiance’s first time eating it.
The wedding was on a Sunday on the beach at sunset. It was a small beach but all of our guests fit comfortably on the chairs the hotel had set up for us. We hired a saxophone player who was magnifient. We brought in Jewish officiant, Rabbi Dana Evan Kaplan from Kingston whch is two or three hours to the south of the island. He talked with us on Skype for several months before the wedding and he customozed the service so we could add some poems that we liked. He is a very jovial and warm man and we liked him so much we asked him to stay for the reception. We left chupah to a Bob Marley song!
Our wedding planner, I forget her name, was efficient and helpful. We held the reception at the restaurant at the top of the steps. The dinner included fresh fish. There were also a few Jamaican dishes on the menu as one of the friendly waiters kept telling me. Dessert was tiramisu and this delicious coffee. We danced the night away.
I don’t know what weddings are like elsewhere but we had the best time and we would go back there for a proper vacation. It is a beautiful country. We didnt have much time to see it because we were getting ready for the wedding but we saw they have horse back riding in the water and we want to do that when we return.
