I’m actually really really glad I did not go the China dress route for my actual wedding dress after dealing with a seller on DHGate. The seller was actually really nice, but they could not deliver what was promised.
Months ago I decided I wanted a gemma replica for my wedding reception dress in a dark red color. I looked at all the forums to find a seller in my price range, about $300. I had considered vivian from ebay, but after seeing her last dress for someone on this board I wasn’t too confident.
I though I got lucky when I found a really good knock off on DHGate, but then I realized the seller used Jasmine’s pictures! Well I asked the seller about the pictures and they admitted the pictures were Jasmine’s but that they could make the exact same dress pictured.
They had good reviews so I decided what the heck let me give it a shot. The process was great, Huayi was very responsive especially when looking for the fabric I wanted.
the first dress they made was not quite right, it was extremely stiff looking and lacked the softness of the Gemma from Jasmine’s. I asked Huayi and she said this was due to the fabric I selected and they did not know this would happen so she offered to make another dress w/ thinner fabric. I agreed.
The second dress they made, while the bodice was 100% the same as Jasmine’s pictures the skirt was completely off I thought. The flowers didn’t lay nicely they just stuck out. It all looked more like ruffles than rosettes. I think this is because they cut the fabric for the rosettes all the same length while Jasmine’s tapers the fabric so the top of the flower sticks out less.
All in all I would say they were a good seller in terms of customer service, but I wish they had not promised what they could not deliver. I knew it wasn’t going to be like the Gemma 100% but I did expect 100% of the pictures they showed. If they had managed my expection and told me from the beginning that the dress would be maybe only 65% like the pics then I would have probably accepted the dress.
Anyway to those that want to go with a china replica good luck! But I’m glad I didn’t. I wasn’t super upset because this was only a reception dress and it’s not really necessary because I love my wedding dress and could wear it all night. Though they did do a good job with the color!
Even though Huayi didn’t get the dress quite right if I needed another replica, perhaps something less complicated I would use her again. Their customer service was really amazing. They sent me photos of sample fabrics for me to choose and gave honest opinions to my answers. They did miss some details though like the zipper back I wanted and the sweetheart neckline. All and all I could have had a worse experience. Plus they gave me a full refund because they said they could probably not make the dress to my satisfaction. Maybe I’m just too picky!
