Uh yeah!  Some things I am willing to spend money on without batting an eye, but other things really make me want to pinch my pennies.  Different things are important to different people and the invitations were just not too important to me so I was like “no way” to spending $3 per invite.  And I wasn’t liking the fact that it would take about a week to get the things in the mail when I could just print them all in an evening (or so I thought).

So my fiancee and I spent a couple of WEEKS days at craft stores, industrial paper stores, scrapbooking stores to find the right paper and ribbon.  We decided on a cute square invite and so we had to order special envelopes to fit these.  And wouldn’t ya know it, square envelopes cost more to mail.  We spent more than $3 per invite and the things took $1.17 in postage to mail.  And it took forever and was a huge headache.

I did like how they all turned out but if I had a do-over, this is something I would have paid for.

@meanttobee: oh wow! that is insane, but it sounds like a neat project.

I am a DIY wanna be. I am not artsy but I have an artsy mind.

My card box of all things, (thought it would be so easy) went wrong. I tried cutting a slit for the cards to go through in the top of the box, sliced my hand open but it wasn’t even worth it. It looks like crap and I ended up spending $350 at the fabric store on everything (boxes, paper, fabric, feathers, beadings–anything to make it look great, I don’t even know how it costs so much)

Eek.  We all run into our crafting misshaps.  Mine was prob the thank you notes that I was making for the eventual bridal shower, I mean we are still a good 13 months out. 😉

Enlarged a template out of the DIY craft book.  Proceeded to cut out of cardstock the main card.  Used permanent glue to glue some patterned paper in.  Permenently glued on white paper to write on on top of patterned paper.  Went to fold the card, it should end up in a heart shape, and find the side is about an inch too short(turns out the template copy was distorted by the copier.)  Two hours of work and 6 pieces of paper in the trash.  Luckily I only made four before I noticed the defect.  Boo.

Do a cheap run-through!  I sent my Save-The-Date Cards to my fiance’s just to make sure it was enough postage and that the envelopes won’t get ripped off the postcard.  Saved me a headache!

I hot glued my thighs together 🙁 I used hot glue on my belly bands for our invites and I was wearing a pair of shorts. A big glob oozed out and hit the inside of my left thigh, I naturally snapped my legs together because it hurt so dang bad. NowI have burns on the insides of BOTH my legs….. fail.

But I love our invites and it’s sad to say it was worth it hahaha. I am totally DIY addicted.
