My cat had that happen once.  He hit it on something pretty hard or scratched it enough to break a blood vessel and his ear fully inflated like a balloon!  It was so creepy looking!  The vet had to cut his ear open to drain it and make sure the bleed was stopped.  They just stitched it back up and it healed fine and never happened again.  His ear would never stand up right again, though.  He looked more like a half scottish fold kitty, lol.

I honestly don’t remember!  It was a very long time ago… but I don’t recall being like “OMG how am I ever going to pay for this?!?!”  It’s a pretty minor and quick procedure. We had to go back in a week or so to get the stitches out too.

Our dog has had a large hematoma in both ears, but at different times.  The first one we had fixed, and it now looks like nothing ever happened.  I don’t remember how much it cost, but I think it was pretty pricey, just like most things with furbabies 🙂

The second hematoma we didn’t get fixed because we learned that it was mostly just a cosmetic procedure, and not really necessary.  Our boy is getting older, and putting him under for a surgery that wasn’t super necessary seemed like it wasn’t the best idea.  Now his ear is just scrunched up, but personally, I think it’s kinda cute.
