I am REALLY picky about shoes. Recently I tracked down the *perfect* (to me) pair of heels – 2.5 inch heel, nude, glossy, not too pointy of a toe, etc. I even had to return the first pair and order it again because the first pair was too big. Anyway, my point is, I LOVED these shoes and was picturing them with all kinds of outfits. I wore them around the house today and for just a couple hours to an interview.
Well, we were just lying in bed, trying to go to sleep, and my nine month old mutt has been chewing on his bone like he always does. But then I hear a weird squeak … like the sound of something rubbing against patent. And my dog had grabbed my shoes and had totally destroyed them! There are teeth marks all over and the toe on one is all ripped up.
He doesn’t even chew shoes normally, I don’t know what possessed him to do this! And of course I immediately jumped online and … everywhere I look is sold out of my size. Of course.
Now I can’t sleep because I am so upset. Over shoes. I know it’s silly but I just can’t believe this happened … It’s like when you have something really great in a dream and when you wake up it’s gone … except this time my dog took it from me. : (
He’s lucky he’s so cute….

Awww, I’m so sorry. Bad dog bad dog bad dog! Is the material different than the dog is used to? I know some dogs really like certain textures to chew on because of they like the feeling on their teeth.
What shoes are they? Perhaps post them here and we can all search around for them and see if we can find them anywhere? The internet is magical like that.
Just remember that your dog loves you.

Sorry you lost your shoes! Our dog only chews things when we’re away due to seperation anxiety, but it teaches us to put everything away and out of doggy reach. Maybe you can start shutting your closet door so that doesn’t happen again.

We just started not crating our dog when we leave and she will eat our shoes every time. We have now learned (very quickly) that we need to put our shoes away when we leave.
She never eats them overnight when we’re home or any other time that we’re home.
I’ve heard that we should think of the shoe-eating as a compliment. Like, she loves us so much that she wants to be with us and our shoes really smell like us. So now I throw her a sock from the wash in the morning that she can worship all day instead. (She does not eat socks). And we put the shoes in the closet.

oh that sucks… my dog did that once or twice when he was a puppy and I yelled at him really loudly and it scared him and since then hes never done it again… we can leave anything on the floor and he’ll either lay on top of it or just ignore it

Yeah, I think he probably did it because they were a patent leather texture, and I don’t have many dressy shoes. Usually I just have sandals or sneakers lying around so I guess they’re not as fun to chew on!
I feel a lot better now that it’s morning. Being tired just makes me lose all perspective. : )
But yeah, I will definitely be more careful about putting shoes out of reach now. He’s usually so well-behaved that I forget he’s still a puppy with puppy urges.
Thanks for the commiseration everyone. : )
