Ok so my Boxer has been growing a wart on the top of his head for quite some time. Yes, its lovely, I know. We like to call him our little unicorn. Lately, the wart must have become very itchy because he keeps scratching it and it keeps splitting open and growing. The vet said there are no creams we can put on it for it to go away. He said that the dog has to be put under in order to remove it. Anyone else had this issue with their dog? I don’t know what to do and I feel so bad for him!

@Adeline4: Our husky mix has a tendency towards these too. The vet told us that as long as he doesn’t mess with him there’s not a reason to have them removed. Unfortunately our dog was messing with them-both were on his legs, he’d at lick them causing them to bleed/get bigger. So he’s had 2 removed and he did fine both times (the second one we coupled with a teeth cleaning, since he was already under anesthesia). It sounds like maybe your pup may need his removed. It should be a relatively simple procedure, it’s just a little expensive (I think ours were in the $400-500 range)

I would have it removed sooner rather than later if he is now bothering with it!
My guy has had a couple removed, and while it’s an easy decision for us because he’s insured and it doesn’t really “cost” us anything, it’s been better for him as once it heals it’s easily forgotten!!

My dog had a wart appear on her lip. It showed up so quickly, as in 7 days. I went away on vacation, came back and there it was!
We had it lasered off at the vet. They did not put her under. The vet said she sat perfectly still like an angel (his words!).
If it’s changing and bothersome, then it’s time to get it off.

I would go and have it done so it’s not bothering him anymore.

Thank you all for your info.
sienna76: I didn’t realize that they lasered off a wart… Maybe they can do that for him. Was it really expensive?
He’s been through a lot lately because he had surgery to remove a tumor off of his leg. I wish we had gotten the wart off then. I felt bad putting him through more trauma but I realize it’s time to do something about it.

@Adeline4: I don’t remember it being really expensive. Maybe $60 plus the office visit? I actually wasn’t present when they did it. She was staying at the vet clinic while I was on vacation and I said if it grew while I was away they could take it off.
