- Wedding: October 2013
So today my Mum and I went dress shopping. I had to wait until lunch time until Mum got home from work before we could go, so I spent the morning doing my hair and makeup, becuase I don’t get to very often. I thought it would be a good idea to do my hair up as that is how I want it on the wedding day. And after much frustration, mum came home, said I looked lovely and off we hopped.
The first shop we arrived at was closed on Wednesdays… only Wednesdays. We sighed and peered in through the windows. They had some very pretty things in there; it was a shame we couldn’t go in.
The second shop was a bridal and formal wear shop and we immidiately got distracted by the brightly coloured rainbow of prom dresses. Luckily we got through the indigos and moved onto what we actually came to see: the wedding dresses!
Now I did have an idea of what I wanted before I went, but as I am sewing my own dress, we went to try some things on and have a look at what best flattered my figure. We picked out a mermaid and and a high waisted ballgown. The Mermaid certainly flattered me more. But I was unconviced, becuase I thought it was too sophisticated a sillouette for me. We tried a lower flare first, and that was even worse. then we tried a dress that flared from the natural waist, and it looked a frumpy on me to be honest. I was beginning to be discouraged at this point, and it was only the first shop! Then I picked up the dress I had first pointed out. It was sparkly, and that’s the full reason I wanted to try it on. I’m not ashamed of my inner little girl (that is not so inner much of the time).
So I put this dress on and stepped up onto the stage and grin just spread from ear to ear. It flared from the hips so was a different silloutte to the others, had a huge train, lots of sparkle, lace and fabric flowers. It flattered me so well, emphasising both my waist and curves. And was so sparkly! So mum and I examined it thourougly and took a few photos.
At the next store we realised after a few minutes that we were looking for a replica of that dress. We tried on one dress but wren’t really impressed by anything in that store. After a short coffee break we looked at one more store and the decision was made, we’d found what we had wanted, and it’s time to look for fabric!
Oh, pics! You want to see pics!
