Soooo excited. I posted a few months ago about trying to find a seamstress to make me an inexpensive custom dress, and a lot of people told me it wasn’t realistic to find a good one for under $500 (thread here: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/can-anyone-recommend-a-goodinexpensive-custom-dress-designer#axzz2N4ndeEYP )
Well, they were wrong! I mentioned to my cousin that I was looking for a seamstress and she recommended the person who made her dress (I was at her wedding in December and remember her exquisite dress, never even considered that it was custom-made, it was pretty much impeccably made). So I contacted her well in advance and told her my ideas. We exchanged e-mails and chose fabrics and so on (it was all done online, but I don’t mind that because I was pretty open to a lot of things, so long as the colors were close and the silhouette was right), got my measurements done. And…
IT’S FINALLY DONE! I haven’t made the final payment yet (I paid for a $100 deposit to buy materials, and she said I could pay the rest when I ok’ed the final dress…I’ll be doing that when I get paid on Tuesday) but I’m super excited. I wanted a simple 1930s-style dress (very very low-key ceremony and reception) and she incorporated everything I wanted.
Here are some photos (it looks weird because I’m bigger than the dress form and it hangs oddly, but it’ll be fitted). The front, the back, and a close-up of the detailing on the neckline.
