llussier:  fun fact: it’s actually NOT illegal to make dresses which closely resemble another designer. It is illegal to use copyrighted lace or branded logos, or to advertise/make products using photos stolen from another person (like, you can’t take photos from Mori Lee’s website to send to China and say, “make me this exact dress!” I’ve always found the new weddingbee rules about this ass backwards, because you are allowed to post photos of your “inspiration dress” – which is the illegal part, if it is getting wholesale copied – but not the name of the people who are doing (often) completely legal work, taking elements of two or three dresses and putting them together.

And again wasn’t saying this was the case with the OPs dress just answering a question. And yes youre right and 99% of ‘bargain’ online shops take photos off the designer’s websites and act like you will be getting that exact dress, it’s becoming a big problem especially with the Berta, Galia, and Inbal dresses. People think they’re getting this amazing deal and then they get screwed, this has nothing to do with custom dress makers because there are many awesome ones on Etsy who do super cool work I am all about indepent designers such as Sarah Seven who started off small and is now in mainstream bridal boutiques. However it is hard for bee to filter because I don’t think they really know the difference so I think it’s just easy for them to say no to all Etsy/Chinese shops.

llussier:  🙂 sorry, copyright is a favourite soapbox of mine. Personally, I love small indie and independent designers and workers, and I was so disappointed when – at the same time this site was getting sponsorship money from Allure and other site advertisers – it shut down the ability to talk about those small designers.
