I don’t really think it matters. My dress was satin and my I only had 1 Maid/Matron of Honor and her dress was chiffon….hers was strapless sweetheart like mine and I think it worked well together.

Basically what I am trying to say is there are no set rules…..don’t stress over it!

I think this is one of those details that nobody else will notice. Focus on picking a dress that your maids love and feel pretty in, and dont worry so much about the fabric.

I don’t think it matters! Don’t worry about the fabric! Just find something that you all like.

I don’t believe it matters at all.  My dress is a full satin skirt with a beaded bodice (sweetheart) and my BMs’ dresses are full-length halter chiffon (the Maid/Matron of Honor is wearing a strapless full-length chiffon gown as that suited her more in the belly since she’s expecting).

@Baroness_Meg:  I don’t think it really matters….you said your dress is chiffon and flowy…so it would be lovely to have the bridesmaids in a flowy dress too instead of a heavier fabric!

My dress is taffeta…my bridesmaid dresses have a taffeta body with a chiffon skirt ๐Ÿ™‚ x

I actually asked consultants this same question at two of the bridal shops I visited.  I was told that typically the bridesmaids dresses should be the same or a similar material to the bride’s dress for uniformity.  So, if your dress is a flowy, chiffon dress, the best dresses for your bridesmaids would also be in a chiffon (rather than satin) if you want to have a consistent “look.”

I think it’s looks great. I’ve recently seen pictures of a bride who had her bridesmaids in pretty much the same style dress as her (but obviously not white). I unfortunaltey don’t have the right to post her picture but hopefully someone else who has seen the same thing will!

I personally like when they’re the same material. My dress and the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses are both satin and sweetheart neckline. We look like we “belong” together, but no one will mistake their dresses for a bridal gown.
