I went dress shopping when I was 40 pounds heavier. I loved the dress because it gave me a waist and I liked the fullness of the skirt. Now that my body has completely changed, I’m SO bummed out because the dress does NOT flatter me and the pickups make me want to cry.
If I had the body I have now when I was dress shopping then I would have picked a completely different dress.
Just wanting to whine to the hive for sympathy.

@mishelleez: picture should be posted. I’m 17 days out… I don’t think I could get a new dress at this point without tearing my hair out. I’m trying to convince myself that it doesn’t really matter, in the grand scheme of things.. but I know I’ll always look back at the pictures and cringe.

I think the pick ups look really nice! And you have a great waist, and this dress definitely still shows it off.

I think once its pressed and sits nicely you will like it more. It definatly looks good; just wrinkley like its been shoved in a bag…. Don’t panic you will look great!

Is it possible (in the amount of time) to have the hips taken in more, to give the effect of a modified A-Line? It would show your curves (and slimmed physique) but would not completely alter the dress design. I think you look terrific…

Is it possible to get a new dress? It’s a pretty dress but if you dislike pickups I can see how you wouldn’t like your dress

Ok aside from the pickups that you don’t like…
This dress gives fabulous defination to your waist!! In all of your pictures, you will be able to see that. I think your arms and collarbone area look awesome as well and that’s really what stands out in pictures- your top half.
Think about it: you’ll have either your Fiance or family members or BMs around your dress and the bottom will blend in but your upper body will be the highlight of the pictures
With your hair and makeup all done, you will look beautiful!

First of all, GOOD JOB about losing 40 lbs! You look great!!
Second, I think the dress you have now defines the beautiful cruves you’ve been able to maintain despite the weightloss. The bodice does a great job highlighting your shoulders and collarbone, and the pleating around the waist makes you look smaller.

Can the pick ups be taken out? Or, at least some of them? I wonder if that would help.

Oracle –
Congratulations on your weight loss! As June said, if you don’t like pickups it is understandable that you are not happy with your dress. What gave your waist such a great shape is the rouching across the top of the dress. If you are a sample size, you may have some options at many bridal salons. If not, I know that NY has consignment shops that sell wedding dresses – you might want to see what the options are in LA. If your price range is David’s Bridal, I think they stock dresses in different sizes in the store. IF not, you can try calling bridal salons and asking them if they carry any manufacturers who keep dresses in stock in the US. Best of luck to you.

Just wanted to say I’m not usually drawn to pickups but I honestly think your dress is gorgeous. Your waist looks tiny & your shoulders look good!
I’ve found that after periods of time when I’m devoted to fitness / dieting, I am a LOT more critical of my appearance & don’t think I look good in things that I used to love (even if they fit a little better). Maybe the same is true for you? Anyway…if you stick with this one, I promise your guests will think you look amazing. And if you want to change, I understand how you feel.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, comments and congrats on the weight loss!
I actually LOVE the top of the dress – always have. It’s the bottom that bums me out!
The dress in the picture isn’t actually ‘my’ dress – it’s one 2 sizes bigger that the store was able to swap out (since the one I ordered didn’t fit and alterations would have been a nightmare)… so I’m hoping it will fit even better.
I hated dress shopping the first time around – so I doubt I’ll try to find another one (too many other things to do, with less than 3 weeks to go)…
I guess I just wanted to love my dress even more in my current body and it didn’t even dawn on me that my ‘new’ body would be so different, it wouldn’t be as flattering in the dress (if that makes any sense). I think I would have picked something sleek on the bottom, that showed off my new self. Guess I’ll have to save that for another time and different dresses I’ll wear more than once in my life.
@PinkPinstripes: I’m going to channel what you said and even tell my photog to shoot more from the waist up! 🙂
