A little backstory on my dress. I fell in love with the Maggie Sotterro Gatsby and had to have it for my September rustic ranch wedding. I will be wearing it with cowboy boots! In my haste to purchase before the 2011 Maggie price change I decided to get it in the champagne color sight unseen (based on the bridal shop showing me the Ivory version I was wearing layered over a different champage Maggie gown). LOVED!!!!!! Put the deposit down and went home happy.
After some online dress trolling I find out that the dress does NOT come in ivory over champage as the store told me. It comes in CHAMPAGNE over… wait for it…. LIGHT GOLD. Commence FREAKING OUT. Called and was told there was nothing I could do as my deposit was down and dress ordered.
Since then I have been told by a few brides it is actually a lovely champage color, not a bright gold. Phewwwwww…let’s hope they are right when it comes in June. But this now has me concerned on how to accessorize.
My color scheme includeds lots of ivory, browns, and pops of mustard yellow, aqua and a deep red (very small amounts of the red)
I think with a goldish dress I can’t do the fun mustard yellow bolero I wanted. (My bridesmaids have mustard yellow silk flowers for their hair) I also have no idea what jewlery to wear as the dress is described as a light gold but with pewter accents. HUH?
Can I wear a bolero with the color and detail of this dress?
Here I am in the ivory version…remember mine isn’t this color.

Something similar happened to my hairdresser! I’m sure you will look beautiful regardless, its a beautiful dress in any color.. have you found a pic online??

Yes, other gatsby bees were kind enough to send me pics of the dress in all colors. I am hoping the color will just add to my vintage feel.
However, it is just so unnerving to make a huge and expensive decision and then find out that it wasn’t what you thought. I am hoping it is just dress destiny and this one ‘found’ me by accident. We will see in June?!

Especially since I was at first nervous about ‘champagne’. Hahaha, little did I know it was GOLD!!!!

I think it will be okay. I did some searching and there’s a whole thread on this dress.
There’s a bunch of bees who purchased the light gold version. This bee posted pictures of it. http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/maggie-sottero-gatsby-1/page/2#post-1345056 This is just one thread, if you seach some more there are more threads.
It’s not that bad. I also had a maggie sottero dress and one of the dresses I looked at had was diamond white with blue ice embroidary. It’s sounds like it might be too much blue but when I tried it on, it was amazing. It was just enough color but it was still a white dress. Maggie’s dresses and their little hints of color is great. I’m sure the light gold won’t be as bad as you think.
I hope you come back and update us on your dress. I would love to see it.

thanks! I think it will turn out ok too! 🙂
I actually have read the threads and that is kind of how I discovered that they don’t make it in the color combo I was told. And bees are so great they sent me photos. That is why I am coming to terms with this mistake 🙂
Now that I am not freaking out, and kind of ok with the light gold, I am wondering how to accessorize for this unplanned color.

I think its going to turn out great just from seeing the pics in the links posted 🙂

My dress was a Light Gold Maggie. I wore silver jewelry and pretty much any ivory accents matched it fine. In fact I had sleeves added and the material was listed as Ivory- it was just from JoAnn Fabrics but it matched well.

My dress is also light gold, and I think it’s a whole lot more interesting than white or ivory. But that’s just my honest opinion! Don’t worry, it’ll be beautiful.

Thanks everyone! I am starting to think this dress was meant to find me 🙂
@edgypeanuts – your Maggie is so pretty and you look radiant! And you are right it looks good with the silver jewlery and ivory sleeves.

Ooh I love the pics of it in the light gold. At first I thought GOLD! when I read your post and flashed to the scene in Austin Powers when he’s wearing hot pants, but this isn’t that at all. It’s fantastic!

That’s seem sliek BS to me… they don’t start making the dress for a while. I put in for a reg length and then changed it to petite about 3 weeks later. They said they would call the designer (it was a maggie) and see if they could change it. They did and it was no problem at all. Ask them to call the designer and check (I mean it can’t hurt).
