So my wedding was well over a year ago and I’ve done nothing to my dress. It’s been in a bag, stains and all. I doubt I can sell it since I’ve had it taken in from a size 0 and I’m thinking there’s not a big market for this particular dress in this very particular size. I didn’t want to spend over $100 for cleaning something I really don’t have huge concerns about.
So I got the bright idea (hehe) to throw it, lace, beading and all, into my front loading machine. I sprayed the dirtied hems first with pre-wash. Then stuck it in the machine on the gentle cycle, in cold water. It’s in there now. I will let you know how it turns out. Fingers crossed!

I bet it will come out pretty, clean, and perfect.

I am so curious to see how this turns out!

It’s all pretty much polyster, FWIW. I did do some reading before doing this and read you shouldn’t try this with silk.

I actually read an article where it said it’s safe to wash most wedding gowns on the delicate cycle! I’m not sure if it’s true and don’t think I’ll try it myself, but I’m sure it will be fine 🙂

I think on gentle cycle, especially in a polyester, it should be ok. My mom used to work for a dry cleaner, and she never takes a thing there and washes it all at home instead, including wedding dresses for friends/family.
Also, my eyes misread part of your username in the post title at first and I thought this said “My cat is in the washing machine”… which would be way worse!

Lol, that’s funny. Especially because I have to shoo the cat out of the dryer all the time when I’m unloading the dried clothes 🙂

(Not topic related) you are one of the most positive people on wedding bee… thank you for being awesome.
Topic related: If you haven’t done anything with it and you don’t plan to do anything with it and its polyestster I can’t see why you couldn’t try… its probably going to be pretty wrinkely, but it will also be clean!

I thought about trying this too. Maybe I will now, good luck!

I think another bee made a post about machine washing her own dress and it came out beautifully (or I have an exceptionally overactive imagination!).

Awesome, I want to do this with mine as well!! Are you planning on putting it in the dryer as well?
I took my dress in from a size 0 too, and I can’t seem to get it sold. If your dress turns out well, I might have to try this 😛

Yeah, I expect it to be pretty wrinkly. I can probably borrow a steamer from somewhere when it’s all dried.
I read that post too 🙂 It did give me some more confidence to do this.
