- Wedding: October 2011
Hi everyone! First post. I have started dress shopping for my October wedding (daunting task, I hate to shop!).
A month ago I went to a few bridal shops. At the first one, I could only find one dress I even wanted to try on…crazy huh? The second one I found a lot of dresses that I thought I liked, but none of it really gave me a strong feeling (I wonder if I will be the type of person who ‘knows’ it’s the dress anyway – I am a very calculated decision maker, lol).
I knew I didn’t want a ball gown, but I was in love with the frilly/frothy skirts. I tried on a lot of Allures and loved them all…but once I saw the pics, they just weren’t the same for me. I am only 5’3″ so I get swallowed up very easily by something overwhelming. Here’s a couple examples –
And this second Allure I LOVED (and loved it in the mag the first time I saw it too). But none of my friends or my mother liked it at all. I know it’s about me and what I want, but I won’t feel my best if I know I’m the only one who likes it!
Since it was a trunk show, they were offering some really appealing deals on these dresses & matching veils…alas, being a ‘sleep on it’ person, I walked out empty handed. And am so glad that I did!
I decided to go it alone yesterday and went to another boutique. I think my salesperson felt bad for me, haha. I knew they had a lot of maggie sotteros, which I’d lusted over for quite some time. I tried on many things and I really loved all of them (that’s my problem, I can see myself wearing a lot of different dresses!) I did however find two that I felt REALLY strongly about.
The first is a sottero/midgely katharine. The picture doesn’t do it justice – it was gorgeous. I would definitely go with the white/blush option after seeing it on another bee! I loved the intricacy of this dress, it appealed to the girl-likes-shiny-objects side of me…
But…heres my favorite dress so far. Funny story. The worker and I were going through dresses, trying to find things to try on. She held up this dress and immediately I thought that is NOT going to look good…but being the nice person that I am, I said sure I’ll try it on…after all she was only trying to be helpful. Not only did I never like the tiered look in magazines, but I thought for sure it wouldn’t work on me either.
Lo and behold…I loved it!!! The minute I put it on, before even looking at the mirror, I think I might have gotten “the feeling”. It was so dainty and light (mind you, in NC it’s not uncommon to be 80 degrees in october!). I felt so small, delicate and PRETTY! I never, ever feel that way (I work on cars all day, rough and tumble kind of gal).
It has an adorable detachable train, with a flower at the top. It’s just enough for me! It appeals to my childhood side (I used to play in my mom’s old curtains and make ‘dresses’ out of them LOL).
Here it is…
I want to go to a couple other stores just to be sure…but this might be it!!
