I am going to order my dress early next month, and I have always wanted straps, but fell in love with a strapless dress. I don’t really want to have alterations done by the people at the salon I am going to to purchase it, but I am worried the straps will be too hard to make for a smaller seamstress.
Here is my dress:

I will also have the humps of the sweetheart lowered, I think they look funky.
and here are the type of straps I like a lot:

And a photoshopped hybrid of the sleeves, the top lowered, and a pretty belt:

Alright, my main concern is finding a fabric that matches my dresses ruffles well enough to buy and give to a seamstress. I also thought of buying extra at the salon when I order the dress, but I really want to save money.
What do you guys think? Is it possible? Has anyone done this? Suggestions?
Thanks in advanced!

I don’t think it will be too hard to add straps. I really love the straps that you like, it’s so pretty!

@Lyndzo: Thanks! I’m wondering where I can look for fabrics, because I don’t think Joanns has much that will be useful…

The salon can probably order from the designer the same fabric the skirt is made from and applique like on the bottom of your dress.

@mrsSonthebeach: That’s what my last resort is, but I was hoping for a cheaper option!

I ordered lace from the designer when I ordered my dress. It was actually relatively inexpensive (definitely less than $100 but I don’t remember the exact price). I’m so glad I added cap sleeves on my dress, it ended up being my favorite part!

I can’t believe how stunning that dress is. I am so jealous. Adding straps makes it even more amazing. Good luck!!

Gorgeous dress, and I love the straps you’re thinking about putting with it! I’d say first check to see what the price is on the matching fabric, because that would be best.

@risingsun: agree. At least ask for the price because that will be the best option. I love your dress and the straps that match bring the detail of the skirt up and tie it all together beautifully!

That looks gorgeous, the photoshopping one is great. It should not be hard for a proper seamstress to do this at all, and not expensive either. Good luck
