I apologize in advance–I’m very tired. I’m sure this had horrible spelling/grammar/etc…
Let me start off by saying I don’t really see the point in spending a TON of money on a dress that I am only going to wear once, possibly twice if a trash the dress is involved. I had decided ahead of time that I wanted a very simple dress that was relatively inexpensive & wanted to then “splurge” on jewelry and shoes that I would wear again.
When I made my appointment with DB they asked me to check out the website and add dresses I like to a favorites page. I did this, selecting dresses I thought were elegant but still felt comfortable with the price.
Appointment time came,my consultant greeted me. She looked at the printed list of dresses I added to my favorites (all around $200) and immediately took me to designer dresses to show me what they had there. I told her I wanted a simple, elegant dress with no frills that would flatter my figure. She didn’t get the hint and continued to pull out dresses $1000+. I then told her I wanted to stick in the $200 area–she scoffed at me and said she’d go pull the dresses off my favorites list that were available and pointed me to the correct rows for dresses.
After she grabbed the dresses, my mom & I grabbed a few, and she grabbed few others we went to the dressing room. This is when she gave me some spiel about how she works for commission, but would never let that change anything. The 3rd dress I tried on was simple, flattering, and close to my price range–on sale for $300. I told her I liked it but wanted to try on a few others to make sure. She was polite but then stopped pinning the dresses back to fit correctly & started making comments about how she knew I wouldn’t like the dresses or how it didn’t look as nice as the one I liked.I’m self-conscious about my figure so this was all it took for me to want to be done with the shopping process.
I ended up purchasing the 3rd gown…
Well I got a call today that the dress was ready to pick up–I had a 2 hour gap in my clinical experiences so I ran there real quick. When I told the woman I wanted to try on the dress before I left she gave a smart remark and then went to get the dress-telling me what dressing room to go to. She then left me alone–I had to ask someone to help me get the dress on.
I then decided to look the dress over before I left the store–THERE WAS A BLACK PEN MARK ABOUT 2 INCHES LONG ON THE BACK, THREAD HANGING EVERYWHERE ON THE BOTTOM, AND THE BEADS ON THE SASH WERE LOOSE AND IT WAS COVERED IN HAIR THAT WAS NOT MINE AS WELL AS FUZZ (like when you wear a fleece without washing it). I was directed to the manager. When I told the her all this she just looked at me and said “are you going to sign the paper.” Now bees I’m not one for confrontation, I start getting anxious and uncomfortable but I had my fill of poor customer service from DB and I got an attitude back-–
me: No, I will not be signing anything, my dress is NOT perfect and I deserve a perfect dress! I don’t know if someone bought this and returned it, but I’m not taking it.
manager: It was probably sent from another DB. The mark isn’t that bad, it could be washed off, and the loose beads are just from shipping it here.
me: [starring, furiously]
She then said she would try to order one from the supplier to which I replied I wanted my money back if she couldn’t get a new dress. When she had her eyes locked on the computer she asked if the dress at least fit–to which I replied it was a little too tight through the mid-thigh but too big in the top. Not flinching she said “Well it’s hard to have the perfect body for OUR dresses”
I’ve never wanted to smack someone so much–in a business where you are trying to make everyone feel beautiful and confident why would you say anything that could be considered insulting. I know I do not have the perfect body by any means, I’m a size 6, but it wasn’t necessary. Every bride deserves to have the best consultant, helpful advice, and great customer service that continues after they receive their money!!
None of these things would have made a difference if the were a single act but all of them together have really put a bad taste in my mouth for DB 🙁
…And I have to go back to pick up my dress when it comes in…
SORRY FOR THE VERY LONG POST-BUT I FEEL BETTER NOW
