- Wedding: October 2014
Now that I am ENGAGED, I am so excited to start blogging my wedding planning journey! I think we all have had expectations, plans, and picutred the way the proposal will play out. I can tell you right now, that it is nothing like you will ever expect! I could have never pictured things playing out the way they did for me! I couldn’t be more happy with how much we love one another, the proposal, my ring, and the story that ties it all together.
A “real vacation” wasent feasible for us this year. Between me transferring to a new location for work, all the pressures and stresses that come with it, him and I working opposite schedules, and having just finished furnishing the bedroom, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, and office, there was NO way to go on a vacation. Money is tight, and we are both over worked and in dire need to have a get-away. We decided to take a 2 day, 1 night trip to Mt. Washington in N.H.
We started our trip by doing a zipline tour. This is something I have always wanted to do! The first two “practice” zips were good, I was a little scared but dismissed my feelings as nerves, after all it WAS my suggestion that we go ziplining… Fast forward to the next zip, well it ended in tears. I hated it. my soon to be fiance comforted me, and supported me if I wanted to end the zip line tour. I am not the kind of person to give up easily, and pride myself in accomplishing things that seem impossible in the moment. We continued the zip lining, and I did finish. I’m happy to say that I completed this, and now as I am sitting on my comfy couch with my pooch laying next to me I can say with a smile that I will never do that ever again in my whole entire life . I am so happy however that my FH had an amazing time, and really enjoyed it. After ziplining we did a “treetop adventure” which I really enjoyed…go figure. You are connected on a harness, suspended hundreds of ft. up in the trees. We walked tight ropes, crooked bridges, walked across loose netting, and swung tarzan style on a rope tree to tree. It was a great bonding experience, NO TEARS lol, and we got a great work out!
After our afternoon activities we headed to the Mt. Washington Hotel. If you have not been, I highly reccomend it. Only 3 hrs. from our home, I felt like I was on a “real vacation”. It was absolutely beautiful, from the view of the hotel itsself, to the beautiful mountains which were so majestic. I knew it was a nice hotel, but it far exceeded my expectations. We had a beautiful king suite, which had a mountain view with a fire place, and bottle of champaigne. We explored the hotel, held hands, laughed, and for the first time in a long time were care-free. It was a breath of fresh air, and just what each of us needed. Moments like this remind me of how much I love this man, and why we are together in the first place. We live busy lives, and sometimes it is so easy to lose sight of who you and the other person are. Try cutting out conversations about work, daily chores, did you pay that bill, can you cut my hair, can you change my oil, grocery shopping, who’s turn is it to clean the bathroom, the dog needs to go to the vet (the list goes on and on) what is there to talk about?? We did not talk about any of the above, and it felt like we were first dating, and getting to know one another. There was SO much to talk about, and we had a strong connection, and enjoyed one anothers company so very much! We had a wonderful dinner, and watched the sun set reflecting pink and purple hughs onto the mountains. SO perfect…..but no ring LOL!
Next morning we had breakfast in bed, spent a couple hrs. at the pool, and checked out of the hotel. I was so sad! We then had plans to drive up the mountain, and drive the scienic Kangamangas Highway. We started with the long scienic ride along the Kangamangas, and ended at the mountain. It was a beautiful ride to the top. 8 miles up twisty turny narrow roads. We arrived at the top and ‘slpored all the sights. Really nothing seemed out of the ordinary to me, I had no idea a proposal was coming, my “moment”. I was so facinated at the small museum at the top of the mountain, and was so suprised when my FH told me he was extremely hot, and needed to just leave like NOW please, lets go lets go. uhh ok, well I’m having fun its not that hot in here but ok, so we left. We got in the car and started down the mountain when he shortly thereafter pulled over the car to a beautiful spot in the clouds. We got out and checked out the view, absolutely beautiful. We stood there and hugged and gave little kisses (awww) and enjoyed the moment. I started to walk back to the car, when he calls my name, I turn around and he asks me to come back. “why?” “just come here for a sec!!” Here is the part that I slap myself in the forhead over and over because even in the most PERFECT and beautiful spot on the top of a mountain and feeling like we were on top of the world, I still had no idea it was coming. I returned to him, and he got on one knee, and asked me to marry him. WHAT? It was a very special, and suprising moment, and my memory is almost foggy from after he asked me to marry him. He tells me that I never answered his question LOL. I was blown away by the ring, it is more beautiful than I could ever imagine, so perfect. He did such a good job picking it out. This was the most wonderful moment in my life, I still can’t believe that we are engaged, finaly it happened! My moment, our moment! I dont even remember the ride down the mountain because of how happy we both were in that moment. We spent the next three hours driving home, talking about our excitement, and plans for the future.
