I’ve seen multiple posts on different sites about being offended on this, and I don’t get it. Cute is a good thing, it’s a compliment!

I agree with other Bees. It was a compliment.

By The Way, I love getting “cute” that’s what I WAS going for when my then Fiance asked for hints.

Totally gotta see pics though ๐Ÿ™‚

cute does not mean “gorgeous” or “beautiful” if they meant beautiful they would have said beautiful. puppies and pink hearts are cute. it’s kind of infantilizing. don’t get me wrong– I say cute all the time, to describe something that actually is cute.

gemstones are pretty, beautiful, gorgeous, flawed, ugly, whatever, but “cute” is a strange word to describe something that is meant to be a symbol of your love, marriage (and possibly a family heirloom one day).

so yes, I do think that usually when a person says cute, they are trying to find a polite way to say “small”.  maybe the person did not intend to be rude, but it’s too bad that they were not thinking before talking.

The only two people who’ve said anyting negative (to my face at least) both said exactly the same thing!  “That’s cute… it’s …different”.  It’s a 3ct yellow citrine in a carat of diamonds, so size has nothing to do with it.  I think it’s just something they said because they weren’t prepared for a gemstone ering. And you know what’s funny?  It took about 10 compliments to to outweight the one “insult” to make me feel better.  Stupid I know.  To me the only acceptable reaction to someone showing you their ring is “it’s beautiful, congratulations”.

@MissNoodles:

I know! I feel like  “if you don’t have anything nice to say, then just say congratulations!”

@janie-janie: Right?  My Future Sister-In-Law (who was one of the two who said that) went to the trouble of bringing HER set along to the next family outing (they don’t fit her anymore due to weight gain) in her WALLET to show me!

Future Sister-In-Law: “Can you believe he spend 8 thousand dollars on these?”

What I actually said: “Wow, that’s a gorgous set, you should really get them sized and wear them!  You’re a lucky girl”

What I WANTED TO SAY:  “I don’t believe that for a second.  The style looks at least 20 years old, and if he bought them enywhere other than a pawn shop I’ll eat my hat”

But of course, I’m too polite a Bee to say that ๐Ÿ™‚

LOL!!! You’re too polite a bee that’s… ok don’t get mad…cute. As in you’re funny and it’s an adorable statement. lol I actually wanted a Blue Sapphire but for some reason and I told my Fiance that that’s what I like, I ended up with a diamond. I guess he just thought that the ‘NORM’ is to get a diamond. Maybe that’s what the people were expecting was a diamond. I love gem stones though and if I saw it I’d be like “see now that’s what I wanted but in blue” ๐Ÿ™‚

@janie-janie: I think you are WAY overanalyzing. I think my Fiance is hot and sexy and everything like that…but most of the time I call him cute. I know lots of women who use it this way. This is one of those things where people almost seem to be looking for a reason to be offended.
