I am so sorry, you must be devastated.
i would never take it off to wash my hands in a public place, my own bathroom is different. Easy to say now, after the fact, but you wont ever do that again, and at least your FI has offered to buy a new one.

I lost my e-ring AND wedding ring for almost two months… I was just sick about it the whole time, so I know what you’re going through. I hope it turns up!!

@TamiN: you actually lost your rings for TWO months and found them/got them back?? Do tell!

I would definitely suggest looking on Craigslist and in your local paper’s classifieds. My mother found someone’s engagement ring a few years ago in a Panera parking lot. She went in to Panera, but no one had reported a ring missing there (she left her number in case anyone did show up). She ended up putting a post on Craigslist, and the owner saw it and was able to describe the inscription on the inside. So you never know, maybe someone like my mom found your ring and is just looking for you to give it back!

@Lee_Ann: Oh no! I have my fingers crossed that your ring will turn up soon. Your FH is being really sweet about it though, mine would have a heart attack.
I know it’s not finding your ring, but maybe this’ll help ease your mind inthe meantime:
A good friend of mine got engaged a few weeks ago. Two days after the proposal she and her FH were playing with the dogs in the dog park. They’re throwing a ball around, and like dogs do, hers slobbered all over her hand while she was trying to wrestle it out of his mouth. She throws the ball and realizes that her ring is totally gone. They scour the dog park looking for the ring but turn up empty handed. A few minutes later they notice that the dog is chewing on something and when they look closer they realize that her ring is in dog’s mouth! Long story short, the dog swallowed the ring and they spent the next couple of days sifting through dog poop. Thankfully the puppy ended up dropping off her ring a few days later and she hasn’t worn her ring to the dog park since.

@TeamMcGowan: I was running late for work and had grabbed my regular jewelry (rings, watch, earings) off the nightstand on my way out the door. About half an hour after I showed up at work, I realized I didn’t have my ring on. Looked in my purse and found my watch and earrings, but no rings. It was winter so I went through my coat, purse, car, etc and it was nowhere to be found. When hubby showed up from work I had the house and car nearly torn apart and couldn’t find it anywhere. I became convinced that one of our three dogs had ate it and I was going to have to buy a metal detector to find it. About two months later (while of course I was still looking everywhere for it) I go to put something in the backseat of the car and find my e-ring just sitting on the floor. I guess they had fallen out of my bag or slipped out of my hands and then got caught in some trim piece in the car and then just took some time to rattle themselves back out.

@anne B: yeah, hindsight is 20/20. The ring was about a 1/2 size too big to begin with, so i was usuallly afraid of it falling off, and was constantly checking to see if it was there. I almost always wore it on my right hand, because those fingers are a big fatter than my other hand. I told Fiance to get me a 6.5 instead of a 7 this time.
My immediate family knows i lost it, but no one else, and i don’t want the lectures from them because i feel bad enough, so my sister told me to tell anyone who asks that it’s just getting resized. So thats my plan! because i know i’ll see a lot of family over the fourth of july weekend.
@Leprechaun: thats a really good idea! thank you!
@TamiN: wow, what a crazy story, i’m glad you found it though!

@HappilyEverAfter54: Yup, my Fiance said the same thing…”won’t be getting another one”- absolutely hates when I take off or place on the table somewhere. I can’t blame him though. It’s a horrible feeling too! Luckily I found mine and hope noone ever has to replace theirs. If so, the best thing to do is insure the ring!!
