I was in Michaels yesterday. I’m not sure if they are nation wide or not, but Michaels is a craft/hobby store. I had the great idea that I would try a small project: A Unity Candle. Here was my inspiration…
They had everything in the pic, but I wanted to be inspired, and not copy. Seems pretty simple right? NOPE! Not for an indecisive, type A perfectionsit like myself. I walked around that store for about 2 hours picking stuff up and putting stuff back, wondering what the Bee’s would think etc. LOL. Until I just said “oh hellz no!” This will not be my life! I am completely ok with an etsy wedding! LOL! Major props to all of the crafty Bee’s!

@lina010: Very cute set! DIY is definitely a time vacuum though lol.

@lina010: LOL! DYI doesn’t have to mean that you do every single detail by yourself. While must of my wedding is DYI out of budget, there are some things I wouldn’t dream of DYIing. I’d say pick what you can (realistically do), what’s important for you to do, and what you want to dedicate your time to. It’s also possible to do partial DYI items, such as buying the candles with the undeoctrated wrapping and putting your own monogram on them. Believe me even Martha Stewart had a team of people DYIing everything for fer!

haha I can relate…i’m definitely creativity challenged 🙁 the whole DIY stuff isn’t coming along so well for me either. LOL

@lina010: Lol DIY definitely isn’t for everyone, and it isn’t unusual for it be way more trouble than it’s worth.
ETSY it up, I say. You’ll end up with beautiful, quality items, and you’ll be supporting lots of talented people.

In the begnning I was: “My wedding is the perfect chance to show off my incredible creativity”
Now I have become: “Holy crap, I don’t have time for this! It’s too complicated!”
I am making a few major things, partly to save money and partly because I know I’ll be upset if I don’t make something.
But all the crazy Pinterest plans I had in the beginning? Out the window!
Whatever, that’s not really for me. 🙂

Ooh girl I’m right there with you! I painted a couple signs for our engagement photos, and I think I’m done with painting for sure! Terrible handwriting + no artistic talent right here.
I glued the letters “Cards” onto our card box and I’m so proud. that’s the extent of my DIYing! I can glue some pretty things together!

@renwoman: What does ‘DYI’ stand for? I know DIY stands for Do It Yourself but I’ve never heard of DYI?

Ugh, totally feel you. Etsy has been my savior for time….but devil for our bank account lol For Type A Perfectionists like you and I….its a perfect solution!
The only DIY I am doing is my table numbers…it took a long time to get it going, but now that I know how to do most of it…its getting easier. But after doing this, I don’t know how Brides do a lot of DIY. It takes a lot of time and patience!

@Carlasgettingmarried: Good catch! It stands for I have fat fingers and was typing too fast! Of course it could stand for Driving Yourself Insane…

@renwoman: That’s a good one! Driving Yourself Insane!

I’m a fan of whoever said “Destroy It Yourself” because that would definitely be me. I don’t even attempt. I was at my cousin’s wedding at Christmas and they’d mad all their chair covers and escort cards and so many other things and I just spent the whole pre-ceremony looking at them thinking “hmm, if I paid them, would they make these for me, too?” The craft gene just skipped me completely.

I am DIY-ing exactly nothing. I don’t have time for it and it would cost more, in the end, for me. Also, I’m not so super-crafty that it would end up looking awesome – it would probably end up looking unprofessional, and I’m going for a very elegant look for the wedding… so yeah, no.
People keep asking what projects I’m doing and it is 100% project “order that from bhldn”, and “talk to the stationer”.

@lina010: I’m right there with you. Etsy has been a Godsend! I don’t make I delegate. HA ha

I’m the same way.
Throw some money at the problem and let’s move on! Etsy is basically my entire wedding.
