I thought I would write about my experience buying a used dress in case anyone is considering purchasing their dress this way.
Where I live there isn’t much selection on designer gowns and everything you see is pretty generic, every bride looks the same. I knew I wanted to get something different and original so I started looking online. I came across a couple websites that sell used dresses as well as dresses bought by brides and never worn as they changed their mind, changed venues etc. I kept my eye on these websites, looking only at dresses that had never been worn (tags still attached). I then stumbled across a gorgeous dress that I fell in love with instantly! Good news… It was my size; BUT… it was used.
I have never in my life bought anything second-hand and the thought of wearing someone else’s wedding dress was unheard of! But I loved this dress so much I had to weigh the pros and cons…
The pros…It was a dress that no one attending my wedding would have ever laid eyes on before, It was a fraction of the cost of a new dress, It was already bustled, saving me money on alterations, I LOVED THIS DRESS!
Cons…What would people think of me wearing a used dress? If the dress didn’t fit or was damaged I would be stuck with it
I decided that one way or another I was going to end up buying online and would be taking a risk on my dress not fitting either way, and lastly…IT’S MY DAY! I didn’t care what anyone thought of how I purchased my dress nor did I need to tell anyone if I didn’t want to. So that was it, the decision was made, I had found my dress!
I contacted the seller through the website and over many emails I asked questions and became very comfortable with her. She was nice enough to share her wedding pics with me so I could get a better idea of how then dress looked as well as her size to ensure it would fit me. After about a week of chatting back and forth I sent the money and made the dress mine.
About 2 weeks later my dress arrived! It was packaged up very nicely in a dress restoration box; it looked as though I had just taken it home from the store. I took it out and inspected it; it had been professionally cleaned and I couldn’t find a flaw or spot on it. Then it was time to try it on… fit perfectly and looked amazing!
Bottom line, I couldn’t have made a better choice!
Only downfall, there were an additional $150.00 in customs changes as it came from outside the country
So for anyone thinking about going this route, my experience was a positive one; and for anyone in the process of dress shopping this is something you should consider.
The website I found my dress through was perownedweddingdresses.com and below is my “Naron” Arie by Rosa Clara that I cannot wait to wear!!
