I think they will grow on eachother.  I know it’s hard because the dog is a present from your ex but he is still your baby and a member of your family so you wouldn’t throw him away like another gift from an ex!

I had a weenie dog once.  He was awesome and I loved him like crazy.  How can anyone not love a dachshund? ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh that is precious!!!!! Give it time. My husband didn’t like my cats at first, but now I catch him picking them up for cuddles and brushing them and talking to them…my eyes don’t lie =]

Awwww too cute ๐Ÿ™‚  I bet he’ll eventually get so used to the dog that he won’t be thinking about who gave him to you!

My husband was never a dog person, he’s always been a cat person.  I love cats, but I love dogs, too.  He (somewhat reluctantly) agree to do foster care for dogs after my elderly dog died.  We got to our second one before I had to keep one, and he (somewhat reluctantly) let me adopt him.  The first time he referred to Buddy as “my” (as in HIS) dog, I practically started crying.  LOL!

So, I think there’s hope for your two guys, especially if your picture was any indication.  Maybe they could try a fun activity like obedience school together.  Or earth dog competitions!  I’m a fan of large breeds, but every time I see the earth dog stuff, I wonder what it might be like to have a little ‘un. ๐Ÿ™‚

yeah my husband is not a fan of my cat either. He mostly just ignores it but does call it “fatty” and is in a constant war with the cat to keep it off the bed. But as long as he never is outright mean or hurtful to the cat it’s not really a big deal. They coexist without loving each other and its fine. (actually the cat loves him a lot – any one notice how cats gravitate towards those that like them the least?!) Some people just aren’t into cats/dogs or pets. I know you want him to love the pet like you do, I wanted that too – “Don’t you love him because I love him?” But don’t force it, I realized the more I stopped harassing him, the more he put up with the cat.

Who couldn’t love that face! haha. He’s so cute. Fi didn’t like my cat, but we moved in together and he came around. We even ended up with a small dog and second cat.

= )

i agree, i think he’ll warm up to the dog, unless maybe he’s just not a dog person?  the dog now has nothing to do w/ your ex!  i hope he comes around!
