I’m turning to the hive for help on this one. My fiancés family will not be present for our wedding, we haven’t spoken to them in almost two years due to an extremely toxic and abusive relationship. My Fiance really wanted to dance with my mom at the wedding since he considers her to be more of a mother figure than his mom is. My mom is also really excited to have a dance with my Fiance because she truly considers him to be a son. We have been up and down all the typical mother-son song playlists in search for a good song, and we have turned up a little empty handed. We have a few leads but not anything my Fiance feels is “the right one”.
My mom and Fiance would both prefer not to have the typical “cliché” song choice (To my Fiance that means no Josh Groban or I Hope You Dance). My Fiance has liked 93 Million Miles by Jason Mraz, Wildflower by Tom Petty, and Days Like This by Van Morrison although he isn’t particularly sold on any of them. After scouring the internet for a few hours he finally said to me “Can you ask your bee’s for their help?” which means he’s fairly desperate 😉
So, please give us some good ideas!

Check out songs by James Taylor or maybe something by Carly Simon? My lullaby as a kid was Sweet Baby James. Kenny Loggins has some sweet songs about his kids too. I know that your fiance hasn’t known your mom since he was a baby, but I’m trying to brainstorm songs that have a theme of parent/child, instead of romance. I see a lot of people dance to songs with their parents that they think are about one thing but are really about romance or sex or something, it’s super awkward.
There’s a john mayer song that mentions his parents but I think it’s the one that’s like “stop this train, I want to get off and go home again” which would be very inappropriate for a wedding probably haha. That’s the one part of becoming an adult that’s FUN.
I’ll keep thinking and look back on old set lists. A LOT of people where I live dance to Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd for the mother/son. It does have great lyrics. But it’s like 10 minutes long so be sure to pick out the part he likes the best and just play a minute or two. Do a verse or two and a chorus.

My Fiance is considering The Rainbow Connection for the mother/son dance. I also feel like Moon River could work for a parent dance, maybe?
