My fiance and i had been talking about getting the inside of the house repainted to update the house a little bit. well he decided to surprise me by getting a painter to do it today and i was *very* surprised. not so much that it was done, but that rather than the freshly painted white walls i was expecting…the entire house is now a dirty mustard colour!
hes so pleased with himself, i cant bring myself to say anything negative, even though the first thing i thought when i saw it was that it was “poo-mustard colour” (that makes me sound like a 5 year old..but still!)
i just assumed we’d be keeping the walls white (and yes i know what they say about people who assume things!) or if we were changing the colour he’d talk to me about it. and i now have a serious fit of the giggles staring at the worlds ugly painted walls. oh bless him, ill have to learn to live with it!

Oh my. Very few men do a good job picking out colors. You’d better bring out the sunglasses! But then, it could make it worse!

Aw. Bless him though. It’s such a sweet thought.

O geez. Does it at least match your furniture, decor, etc.?
Reminds me of the day Darling Husband had gotten off work early & decided to swing through Lowe’s. Our laundry room was in desperate need of fresh paint. He called me at the office & asked what color he should get. My response “A clean color like you’d paint a bathroom. Just white or a light color will do.”
When I got home the laundry room was painted BRIGHT NEON GREEN. It literally hurts your eyes to walk in there first thing in the morning.
So just think- it could be worse!

Lol, youre a darling. You’re taking this so much better than I would have hahaha. I think I would have gone nuts for him changing the color with out telling me, then started repainting everything again.

@CaptainSpaulding: Neon green?! oh that’s hilarious!
It doesnt particularly match furniture but doesnt clash too badly, its just the whole room now looks darker than it did with white walls. its not even just one room – living room and kitchen (joint area) hall and second room
i think he figured out i didnt completely love it – i couldnt help it, when i first saw it my jaw dropped hahaha. hes offered to get the painted to make it one shade lighter but im not sure itd help. So we’ll live with it, theres no point spending more money on paint.
I was just envisioning bright white walls, or maybe even yellow for the kitchen to brighten it up a bit. In a twisted way it’s put me in a really good mood – i find it so funny that he’d actually choose that colour voluntarily that i spontaneously start laughing. Im having real problems keeping a straight face as keeps asking me “what do you think? do you like it?! i picked it by myself”
Im busy wedding planning, and he was a bit unsure about my blue, white and yellow colour scheme. but now im not sure i want to listen to his opinion on colours!

@CaptainSpaulding: HAH we have a neon green spare bedroom thanks to my husband. Why do they think these things are good ideas??

Many years ago, my grandparents decided to paint the shutters outside of their house. My grandmother told my grandfather that she didn’t care what color he picked as long as it wasn’t green.
You guessed it. When he got to the paint store, the only thing he could remember was “green.” When she got home from work that afternoon she sat in her car and cried because the shutters had all been painted emerald green. The didn’t have a whole lot of money, so those shutters stayed green until they both passed and the house was sold. In fact, it’s the only color I remember them being when I was a child.
The new owners promptly pained all of the shutters Barney-the-Dinosaur purple. It was awful. But I’m sure my grandmother was looking down saying “ha! Finally got rid of the green.”

@jessitaylor: This reminds me of something that happened to my sister when we were at my bachelorette party. Her husband isn’t very handy AT ALL and never does anything himself around the house. Well she had been wanting to paint her daughters (she’s 2) bathroom a REALLY light yellow color… so she comes home and it is HIGHLIGHTER yellow, she immediately was like “OMG THIS IS THE UGLIEST THING I’VE EVER SEEN!!” it was HILARIOUS!!!!!! He was like…. yeah it’s pretty bad huh? So even he knew… hahahahaha I’m still cracking up thinking about it.
