I had my first wedding dress shopping experience yesterday and it was amazing! Although I didn’t end up buying it was still a great experience and I learned a lot about styles.
The first dress looked great on the hanger, it was by pronovias and I really liked the lace. When I tried it on.. Yeah no.. The mermaid wasn’t at all for me and my hips looked super wide.
The second dress was a big miss. Way too much fabric for me. I totally felt poofed out and it made me look huge. Horrible.
The third dress was something I would never envision wearing. It is so not my style with the ruffles. We jokingly called it a tissue box, or toilet paper dress. However… I did really like it! It slimmed me down quite a bit and looked really flattering on me. I also liked the fabric and shape a lot and I was jumping around pretty happily. Not the style I envisioned for my wedding but happy to see what suits me.
Then two dresses that aren’t worth mentioning at all. A one shoulder which is something I don’t even like and a long sleeved lace one that made me feel like a grandma. Too bad because I do like lace.
Another full lace gown that I liked but didn’t quite fit me well enough. I did like the top though, but the bottom didn’t fit me all that well. And perhaps it’s a bit too much lace? I love lace but it felt a bit like a night gown.
The last dress I want to show you is one I tried on halfway through my appointment but tried on a second time at the end as well because I loved it. Everyone who knows me a bit on the Bee knows my profound love for Keyhole backs. I am so glad I was able to try one on! It’s by a local brand so not well known. It’s also not really 100% my dream dress. The tulle on the bottom felt really lovely and flowy but was a bit too much. Also there was a lot of beading (hard to see on the pics), that I didn’t like. The consultant said that I could take off the beading if I wanted. But all in all I did really like the look and feel of the dress and slimmed me down a lot. I was smiling and happy in it and made me feel like the bride I want to be.
Some pics of this wonderful dress:
In the end I don’t think I will buy this exact dress because I feel like I haven’t explored my options enough. I would like to see a similar dress with a little more lace so hopefully I can find something in september when I go again. But it did really make me happy so I would call this experience a success! What do you bees think?

I think it’s great to try on many different styles and see what you love! I had a definite “vision” and wouldn’t be deterred but I think it’s wise to go out of what you invision, just in case you find something amazing.
p.s. I love the first one on you, minus the straps and add in a pretty belt to emphasize your waist! Also love the last one with the keyhole!

Thanks girls! It’s funny how something you don’t even like that much can look so good on you. The ’tissue’ dress is not my taste, but it does look good! I’m happy to continue browsing though, hope I can wait until September.

The last one is stunning on you – shame it has the beading you don’t like.
I like the tissue dress as well, but not the top of it – the straight neckline makes your shoulders look boxy. (Don’t worry – they make EVERYONE’S shouders look boxy.)
I think we definitely know your silhouette though – a-lines for the win, and with some diagonal ruching or diagonal layers. They look great on you.

The “tissue box” dress looks fantastic on you!

Wow! That 4th one is fabulous on you! Gorgeous!!! I also like the third one a lot but I like the sweetheart neckline of the 4th one better on you.

sfp: thank you for sharing your experience! Can you tell me the name and designer of the toilet paper dress? That one is dreamy!

Thanks for sharing your experience and the pictures. I always find it helpful to see real brides trying on dresses. The third and last ones are figure flattering on you, IMO, but it sounds like you haven’t found “the one” yet.

PunkRockPrincess: wish I could tell you but I have no idea. I meant to write down the styles of the dresses and even made a note in my phone, but I got so caught up in the process of trying them on that I completely forgot to ask for them.
I Have been looking online but haven’t found it sorry
I did find the stock pics of the last dress though
doeydo: thanks for your reply! I always find it helpful to so I’m super happy that now I can finally contribute myself. I am actually kind of doubting about the last dress because I did get all warm and fuzzy inside and smiling and beaming on the outside. But I do think that a lot needs change in alterations for me to fully love it, so I do feel like I need to check my options a bit more.
II am considering to go dress shopping on my own next week just to get some more ideas without all the attention from my entourage. Good idea?
