As the title says, it’s my first ultrasound today! I’m 8 weeks as of today, and I’m kind of nervous. My symptoms have been pretty mild so far, so I’m afraid of there being no heart beat.
Assuming everything is fine, though, I was really hoping to get a photo to take home. Darling Husband and I want to tell my parents about the baby on Christmas and an ultrasound photo would be a great way to do that. I’m not sure what to expect though – is it common to get a photo to take home?

Hi! I’m 8 weeks and a few days, just had my ultrasound on Monday. I assume you’re having a transvaginal only? That’s what I had. From what I can tell reading these boards and my friends’ experiences, seems like every doctors office is different. For me, the tech let me see the screen the whole time and the picture was clearer than I was expecting. She took crown-rump measurements and let me look at the blinking of the hearbeat. She then did something to measure the heartbeat, though I didn’t actually hear anything, only saw it. I think other people sometimes get to listen to the hearbeat as well. THEN the tech pulled up a 3D image. It was so cool, but my friend said her doc doesn’t do 3D for transvaginal ultrasounds. Then she printed out both regular and 3D images for us to take home. I’ve seen on youtube where the tech will type a cute message onto your pictures like “Hi mom!”, but ours didn’t do that. Anyway, that was my experience. I should add that when I made the appointment, the receptionist told me they wouldn’t even try to see or hear a heartbeat that early, and that was obviously not correct!

I had a transvaginal and abdominal at that stage, and we got pictures of both.
Also were able to see the heart beat rhythm and hear the heartbeat!
FX for a great appointment!

You should! I was 9 weeks and a day at my first appt and we got a bunch, including my favorite ultrasound of any so far because it was the very first time we saw him (and his heartbeat, which that vertical line is measuring) AND it looks like he’s giving us a little thumbs up.

We had pictures (of what appears to be a gummy bear, but thankfully is a real human now) to take home from my 8 week ultrasound, which was only transvaginal. We saw the heartbeat but didn’t actually hear it until 12 weeks. As PP said, it varies depending on your practice!

I did at mine but from what i’ve read all docs are different. We also got to hear the heartbeat!

You should! And if they don’t print one out, as SO or the tech/dr to take a pic of the screen with your phone and you can print it out. We got like 4 printed out for us.

My first ultrasound was at 12 weeks, and we got a couple print out pics to take home. It was neat!
I also had minimal symptoms in the first trimester. I consider myself very, very lucky. I bet your baby is fine!

I had my eight week (and two day) ultrasound last Wednesday and like you, I was so, so nervous that the baby wasn’t gonna have a heartbeat. Well, it did … and we got to hear it and everything. It was amazing!! Hoping for the best for you!!
And I know that every doctor is different, but you should get some pictures to take home. I got three of them!! ❤️😊
