- Wedding: October 2013
I must say, I didn’t expect to have one since our wedding is in Mexico.
Skip down for a TLDR.
My aunt whom I’ve only met 3 or 4 times (ever) just sent me a Facebook message saying she has lots of travel points and has already talked to my travel agent!!! Our official reason for not inviting her was that we didn’t think she would be interested in coming (true), especially since 2 of her kids were engaged when we made the guest list. The real reason is simply that she is almost a total stranger… I think she is probably perfectly nice, but it’s going to be a small wedding so we only invited people we are close to.
Then she sent me a second message before I could reply saying she was all booked and would see us in Mexico.
Before. We. Talked.
That was the part that weirded me out. If she had said something like, “Hey, I have travel points and would love to attend! Would that be ok?”, then I would have said, “Of course! See you there!” without a second thought.
Anyways, I called her and explained my initial reasons for not sending an invite. I added that I would of course be delighted to see her and that she would be most welcome to come.
Meh. Weird, but I think that was the best way to handle it. It’s only one person. (Though if I had invited her immediate family it would have been SEVEN. The entire list is 35.)
TLDR: Mysterious aunt books international trip without an invitation.
So! Anyone else think that’s weird? Also, feel free to share your own stories! I’m home sick and would love to read them. 🙂
