This is my 2nd post since my engagement story that I shared on the “Show me your engagement pictures!” thread:
Naturally, my next step since getting engaged is to try on dresses and I managed to schedule some appts when I was back in Vancouver, BC for Christmas holidays with my mom and sister (also my matron of honour). Here are some photos of my 2 appts. I actually had gone to 3 stores but was only allowed to take photos at 2 of them.
Tiffany’s Bridal (East Hastings, Vancouver, BC)
I think they cut the brand name tags of the dresses, so I couldn’t find out who the designer was for these 2 dresses. If you recognize any of these dresses, please feel free to post a link to the original! My favourite of these 2 is the first one as the fabric and flow of the dress would look great on the beach. I am planning a destination wedding (destination not yet decided…thinking of Boracay, Philippines or somewhere along those lines). The belt on the first one was quite pretty and really went well with any dress i tried on that day. The 2nd dress fit like a glove. it was a lace up in the back so it felt like it fit perfectly. I think I definitely would prefer a lace up corset dress as I like the fit. Which one do you like?
David’s Bridal (Langley, BC)
The 2nd store that allowed me to take photos was of course, David’s Bridal! They opened up a location in Langley, BC so I didn’t need to drive across the border to try on their dresses. The first one was a new style from Vera Wang’s line for 2013. Here’s the link to the dress on the DB website: http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Crinkle-Chiffon-Fit-and-Flare-with-Skirt-Flanges-VW351146 The 2nd dress was a lace dress but the lace pattern was leaves and not the classic flower lace pattern. I love the fit of it, but wasn’t that excited about the lace pattern. I couldn’t find the link on their website. The 3rd dress was my mom’s favourite. I wished it came without straps as i think i’ll be bothered by the straps all day. Of course, since it was a sample, it didn’t fit right so they were falling off my shoulders constantly, but i think that even if they were altered to fit me perfecly, I know that I’d still get distracted by them. Here’s the link to the dress on the DB website: http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Taffeta-Scoop-Neck-Ruched-Bridal-Gown-with-Tiering-PK3472 The 4th dress fit really nice and gave me the curves I was looking for, but I don’t know if the hem where the bodice and skirt seperate cuts off my body shape and makes me look short? I couldn’t find the link to this one either.
I would love to hear your comments on these dresses! Do I even suit this SHAPE of dress or do you think i should try other styles? I have issues around my belly that I’d like to conceal and my ultimate goal is to look slim and slender so that’s why i thought the ruching style worked best for me, but if you have any other suggestions, I’d love to hear it!
Thanks for checking out my post. I hope to post more updates for you when I go back to Calgary, AB and try on more dresses (probably on my own since all my family and friends live in Vancouver. In the meantime, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you. This forum has been a wonderful source of info since getting engaged and I love reading all your posts about all aspects of getting married and even for life AFTER the wedding! Take care everybody and safe holidays to all.
