I bought a petticoat to try with my fit and flare dress to help the bottom keep its shape but I can’t decide whether it is worth wearing it or not. It’s not that comfortable ( dress on its own is very comfortable) but i don’t mind that if it makes a big difference – it would probably save me from needing the dress hemmed too as I’m wearing flats.
What do you think? Ignore the creasing, haven’t had any alterations yet and dress needs pressing.
Thanks bees x

I say go without it – it’s not really adding much more to the dress, and I actually prefer the more natural shape that the dress has anyway! Beautiful dress, by the way!

I actually think looks great w and if saves having to get it hemmed….all the better! :+)

I like it better with, gives it a little more volume! Without it, your dress looks fine too though!

I think the petticoat will hold the dress in place while you are moving around at your wedding. It will also make it easier for Maid/Matron of Honor to fluff for photos.

With definitely looks better! My concern is why isn’t your petticoat comfortable? It should be comfortable and improve the shape of the dress.

Lol this poll is turning out as split as I am in my own head!
I’m not sure why the petticoat isn’t comfortable- it’s a good one, but with layers of net instead of a hoop (a hoop was way easier to walk with but looked very unnatural underneath the relatively light layers, you could see the shape of the hoop). The petticoat means there’s loads of net round my legs which there isn’t when it’s just the dress. It’s not itchy, just feels like more of a trip hazard! Maybe I just need to get used to it.

weasel : Did you fluff the petty coat? I felt like it was hard to walk in until the seamstress had be pick up the dress and she fluffed each layer.

I like it better with, but both look beautiful! I am wearing a large petticoat under my ball gown dress because I wanted to feel like I was taking up a lot of space! What type of shoes are you wearing? I’m wearing flats so I don’t have to worry about getting my heel stuck in all of the fabric. Im also planning on taking off the petticoat later on during the reception. Either way I love your dress!

It looks great with it but I like it just as much without. i was bound and determined to wear one with mine until I tried it on without it. It was 10x more comfortable without & I ended up loving how it looked without it too!

Normally I’d say without as that’s my personal preference but it does look better with!

I like it without the petticoat….. seems to flow better somehow, if that makes any sense 🙂 Beatiful dress, too!

I just wanted to say i LOVE your dress. I too went for plain satin. Your dress, and the topper are pretty much was I was going for the first time round (custom shop didn’t do a good job and my seamstress at home didn’t help so ended up with a different style secondhand but still stuck to the same plain satin idea). You look fab. I love the train too.
Im not helping much on the petticoat issue. Just go with what feels easiest – let that decide. Both ways work.

weasel : gorgeous gorgeous dress btw. I voted no petticoat. I don’t think it makes enough difference to warrant the extra discomfort you get wearing it. You want to be comfortable on your big day and not have to worry about it 🙂
