@frustrated: Hun I completely understand the situation. As I said I am on your side as the rightful owner of the cat. However there is a definite witch hunt against this woman and I think people need to step back and think about taking a walk in their shoes as well.

And for the record my cat is currently dying so I know there are cases where a completely healthy animal gets sick practically overnight.

Um, keeping someone’s animal against their will is crazy and invasive and extremely presumptuous. The woman already forfeited the cat, game over. I don’t see a “witch hunt” here, I see people calling crazy like they see it. You can’t just take people’s pet because you’ve decided that they are unfit to keep it. This woman isn’t in any position to do so, nor does she have any authority to do so other than her SO who apparently enables this batshit behavior. If I thought a friend was abusing their child, I’d call a proper authority to intervene, I wouldn’t just refuse to give the kid back after babysitting.

wow, this is crazy!!!

I am so sorry you are dealing with this situation, OP!! How frustrating! I cannot even tell you what I would do if someone did not want to give me my animals back!! OMG I would have called the cops right then. Seriously would not stand for it. I seriously love my animals (a cat and a dog) more than anything, but I think they have taken their love for animals to a way extreme. Even if they are genuinely concerned, cant they voice that to you in a mature way? “hey, I noticed this —, are you doing this —?” I dont know, just seems way strange.

I agree with PP’s who have said you may want to just stop by and notify the police of the situation – not necessarily get them involved yet – but that way if something does happen once you go to get your cat – you gave them a heads up and they heard your side first.

Please give us an update when you can! Im sure you will be very careful who you let babysit the little guy from now on! ((hugs))

If this woman starts lecturing you, please remind her that when the cat was just a kitten, she forgot to keep in touch with your Fiance about it and effectively abandoned the cat with him, only remembering to ask if he even wanted it some weeks down the line. Really….she isn’t one to criticise! Plus, these cats has always been well looked after…5 years evidence of that, so what is her complaint exactly??.. evidence of neglect? If she has a million cats, she’ll know that sometimes fleas happen. As does death and not from neglect. I think you’re going about it the right way but after a point, you have to put your foot down! Is she trying to regain ownership of the cat now after she originally couldn’t give enough of a sh1t to get it back off your FI? What a hypocrite!!

*FX* hoping your neko is returned to you without the drama today.  i’d go ballistic if someone kept one of mine from me.  (also hoping you’re in the eastern time zone so the wait for all of us…you included…is pretty much over!)
