MINI UPDATE: I GOT MY CAT BACK! No cops were involved or necessary.
@VickyAurea: And also, if they think the welfare problem is you not calling to check on your cat, you can tell them that cats can’t use phones. There is literally zero added to the cat’s welfare by you calling to show you still care. Of course you still care. I’d find it annoying if someone rang me to check on their animals instead of trusting that I hadn’t killed them or anything.
—> I am SO happy you wrote this because as it turns out, this was EXACTLY her issue. i will post more details about my conversation with her later tonight – but it really came down to the fact that we didn’t call enough to her liking and she thought it was very strange we didn’t! She used the “if it was MY pet, I would want to know” like three times!
And she said she knew we wanted to come this weekend, but only after she went out of town, she realized she “didn’t feel right about it” and therefore had her husband email me to tell me we can’t get the cat until she was back in town so we can sit down and talk in person!
ok, i gotta drive home, will post a full story tonight. i am curious what you all think of her arguments and points!

Kinda funny since it was
her pet and she basically forgot about it!
Glad everything worked out well, though! 🙂

Happy you got your cat back!
Not gonna lie, I’m kind of bummed the cops didn’t have to come. LOL.

glad it worked out. It’s over now! Cut that crazy bitch out of your life!

@frustrated:She used the “if it was MY pet, I would want to know” like three times!
But… she didn’t! This WAS her pet and she abandonned it with you! What a jerk. She thinks in a few months she bonded more than you did in the past 5 years.. AFTER she abandonned the kitty???

Yay! I’m so happy you got your cat back without any extra issues. Although I haven’t commented until now I followed this last night and was worried she would just decide you weren’t fit to get your cat back. I’m sure your kitty will be relieved to be back in an environment where all of those other animals are not around to stress it out.

@frustrated:Um, that lady is nuts. It’s your cat, you have every right to take her. It’s not like the cat is a child. It sounds like a damn custody battle, and its not even her cat! Glad you got the poor thing back. I agree with Ms.Tattoo, cut the crazy out of your life.

SO glad you got your cat back.
I’m looking forward to the complete update later. Hope you had a safe drive back.
I agree with PPs about her “if it were my cat” sentiment.
Like others have said, it WAS her cat and she abandoned it with you.

She used the “if it was MY pet, I would want to know” like three times!
This makes me want to pee my pants laughing. 5 years ago it WAS her cat and she DIDN’T want to know. The only difference between the scenarios is that she ABANDONED the animal instead of returning for it! I hope you reminded her of the circumstances under which the cat fell into your ownership in the first place. OMFG, this woman is a crazy person.

I’m glad to hear you for your cat back, especially with out needing to call the authorities on your friend. Plus having to call the cops or SPCA probably would have resulted in her cat rescue operation losing credibility, which if she actually saves cats that need saving and not taking neighbors cats, would have been terrible.
I’m curious to hear her “points” because she really just sounds crazy to me.
Oh by the way, is your sister upset about this whole situation? Since they’re friends and all.

if it was my cat i would expect the cat to call me and tell me if it was un happy or not. i mean what kind of irresponsible cat dosent call and check in with its owner everyday??
ha ha ha i had to post that i told Fiance about all this and thats what he said about it all

So glad to hear that you got your cat back. I’m so curious to know what her other “reasonings” were as to why she just “didn’t feel right” in giving your cat back immediately. This “friend” sounds like a quack who didn’t want to give your cat back that SHE abandoned in the first place!
