We’ve talked about it a lot and one of the major things I’m adament about is that I don’t want to lose my family name (It is unique and I love it) and Fiance loves my family name as well. So what we were wanting to do is both take each other’s last names (but not hyphenate) so that we’d both have two last names.
We also arranged them so that if the length ends up being a problem (combined letters of double last name – 17) We can go by just his last name, but still have the full legal name. We also enjoy the idea of long full names that are full of family history, Fiance after the wedding will have a full name length of 5 names which we plan to pass down to our first son.
Is anyone else “combining” last names?

Nope, I just legally kept my own name. Combining/making an alternate last name just seemed really complicated haha! Sometimes for social purposes I hyphenate, because people seem to get very confused about why Dirty Delete and I don’t share a last name.

We’re still in discussion as to whether we’re keeping our own or adding each other’s last name to the end of our own last name. We were dead set on combining our last names into one new name for a while but I realized I really love to call him Hisfirst Hislast and there’s no way I’m giving up my last name. I hate my last name, I got teased for it at school but it’s the principle of the thing. So if he just added my last name to the end of his, I could still call him Hisfirst Hislast.

No, I just kept my name. But whenever my husband complained about us having different last names, I always told him he was free to take mine 🙂

actually we have talked about him taking my name and dropping his completely. He is not attached to his name and actually hates it. I love my last name and am really attached to it. my grandfather did not have any sons, my mother married and took her husbands last name and so im the last in the line for my grandfather since my mom was his only child. Im super set on keeping my name in one way or another. We gave my son both of our names. In the event that he does change his name to mine my son’s will also be changed to just mine. bottom line, I will not be changing my name .
