Last December my fiancé proposed on Christmas morning with a beautiful 1/4 ct princess cut solitaire. The ring was adorable and sparkly, but that didn’t matter, I would’ve said yes to a twist tie! Regardless, he told me he bought a small simple ring so he could surprise me and had every intention of letting me pick out my own forever ring, which I appreciated. I know its not totally uncommon for girls to help pick out their rings beforehand and then wait for a proposal, but he knew that wanted to be surprised. And I was!
Anyway, we’ve spent the last 13 months of our engagement looking for a ring that we both loved. I’ve gone back and forth over and over, and finally settled on looking for a good quality simple round solitaire. When I explained to my Mom what I was looking for, she told me to give my grandpa a call and tell him what I told her. Turns out, my Grandma who I was very close with before she passed away when I was young, had a simple round cut solitaire and my grandpa was still holding on to it…All the time and searching, and the perfect ring was there all along. Without further ado!
Sorry it’s so gigantic. I don’t know how to resize it on my phone. I’m taking it to a jewler to have it cleaned today, my Mom wants to see about upgrading the center stone as well. I’m just thrilled to wear something that I’m sure meant so much to her. My Grandpa told me he couldn’t think of a more perfect place for it to me then on my finger. : )

Simply gorgeous!!! You couldn’t have purchased a prettier one and the fact that it was your grandmas’s makes it even better!

@MissSpark: I love it.
Honestly, I wouldn’t upgrade this ring or touch it in any way. I’m a sentimental sap, though. The ring, as is, would have much more meaning to me than a new diamond that was purchaed….kwim?
I also have a family stone in my ring. My husband always wanted to upgrade it, but I told him never to touch it.

That’s so sweet that he gave it to you, and with those words! I would never change anything with the ring, just keep it like the beautiful memory it is!

Thank you all! I’m so beyond excited about it. It’s beautiful and special and everything I didn’t know I was looking for.
I’m not convinced about upgrading the stone, but I’m willing to talk with my mom and the jewler about it. I think it’s amazing the way it is. I’ll post pictures after its cleaned up as well!

@MissSpark: gorgeous! I also wear my great-grandmother’s / grandmother’s ring and its a very special link to them :). Personally I’ll never upgrade it as the sentamentality is more important to me than the size of the stone – just my opinion tho

I actually think it’s a great idea to keep the setting, and you and Fiance can choose your own round diamond to put in it – that way it’s like the ring is from both Fiance and grandma. Then you can have grandma’s diamond set in a pendant so it will be close to your heart :).
