So I love my Fiance’ with my whole heart.. but HE DOESN’T SMILE. Instead, he does his own little version of "Blue Steel." He’s done it for 8 years since we started dating. He says it’s because he doesn’t like his teeth. I’m so paranoid all my wedding pictures are going to look like mugshots! Please give me some reassurance that the photographer will snap pics of him with a reaction

Once you find your photographer (if you haven’t already), schedule an engagement session. Its good practice for your groom to get his perfect smile down pat for the wedding! Its good for the photographer too because he can get to know your personalities and what makes you guys have the most natural smiles. Even if your groom does have “his lips sealed”, just know that’s his signature look and go with it! You might even be able to laugh about it later in life!

What doesn’t he like about his smile… are his teeth not straight? Not white?
Whavever it is, maybe it can be addressed at the dentist office!

Oh thats so funny… I tease my guy about being zoolander sometimes bc sometimes when he coughs it sounds really weak like when zoolander coughed after the coal mines haha.
Anyways… most photographers now go for the photojournalistic style, and they’ll capture you and your Fiance when you are just happy and naturally smiling. It won’t be like: one two three cheeeeeese. 🙂 There will be a few posed pics, but I would bet most people’s favorites are just the ones you didn’t even know they were taking!

That’s hard! My fiance has a bit of a “fake” smile he’ll do for the camera sometimes. Ditto on the PP, and also, could you try a few “practice” photo sessions just with a friend or someone to get him more comfortable? I suppose if it’s been 8 years, that might not be an option, but you could try. Good luck!

CorgiTales that is hilarious about the weak cough– i can’t stop laughing!
My fiance does this weird thing for photos where we sort of puts his chin up in the air, and moves his head sort of backwards– the end result being that his nice strong jaw disappears. Oh well!

Man! I’m glad other people have this problem.. I was beginning to think I was too critical lol. My Fiance is hilarious, maybe I’ll get him a few beers before we take pics.. he tends to get mushy and silly when that happens.. lol.

Mr Bee.. he has small teeth. They are straight but since they are small he has little gaps. I told him we could get bonding. UNFORTUNATELY.. he’s a poor unemployed law school grad who’s waiting for a job offer. If only I could get him on my work insurance we’d be good to go.. oh well se la vie!

If he’s not happy with his teeth, he won’t be happy smiling.
I normally don’t advocate borrowing money, but my friend’s dad is a dentist and I’ve seen what a huge impact dentures can have on self esteem. Maybe getting the bonding thing you mentioned would have a similar impact? If that’s true, it might be a worthwhile investment to make… I’m sure he’d be much more confident about smiling if he liked his teeth!

I was expecting something waaaaay worse!! My Fiance pushes his head into his chin & he looks obese in every photo. He literally has 3 chins… it’s ridiculous! I’m trying to teach him how to pose properly before e-photos this winter.
I second going for a photojournalistic style… its more natural & he won’t feel pressure to pose and smile!

Maybe he could smile with his mouth closed? I think a lot of people who have had braces do this… they get used to it from the days when they wanted to hide their teeth. Anyhow, it may be a decent comprimise?

I’m thinking the dentist suggestion might not go over too well. It might make him more self conscious about it. I think I’m just going to hope our photographer knows how to capture a great smile like my Aunt did at his graduation party.
See! He’s got a beautiful smile!
