I was looking at MUAs in the city, but they were all so expensive, and also would charge for travel. Many of the salons near my venue were a bit… shabby, so I was getting disheartened. BUT! I found a nice salon and spa nearby that I liked, and was much more affordable than the NYC options.
I had my hair and make up trial there yesterday. Please tell me what you honestly think about both 🙂
First I got my hair done:
Then I had makeup: (the lighting for these pics is weird – I did not look that pink IRL!)
And then about 6 hours later, at home in the pre-sunset light (which is the lighting we’ll have for the wedding). These are also taken with my fiance’s better iphone camera. These pics are more about the makeup than the hair, as this is after a long drive on the highway with the windows open. I am impressed it held up this well!
So what do you think? Tips, suggestions? I am not sure about the eyeshow coloring, but I’d love to hear any and all opinions. The makeup was Bare Minerals stuff.

I think your eyes look great, but maybe a more nude colour on the lips to compliment the tones of the eye makeup. I think the hair looks great though… it held up pretty well 🙂

I love your makeup, and I like your hair from the front. I think what’s throwing me is that although I know it is supposed to be assymetrical, it is pulled to much in the back to the left by just a bit. Are you going to have a veil or headpiece? You’re going to be so beautiful on your wedding day!

Looks great! For some reason under you left eye it looks like concelear isn’t blended all the way ..or is that just me?

I think your make up looks great…you might need a bit of more masacara or maybe add eyelashes? And a bit darker on the lips and the cheeks so it can show on pics. Your hair looks good!

I think you look great. LOVE the hair (both styles!) The colours they chose go very well together. The only thing I would suggest is to play up the lashes more.

hair from the front looks good, its off in the back though…. something just doesnt look quite right. Like you are missing a chung of hair from the right side of your head… Idk maybe its just hard to see from the photo angles

I feel so bad saying this but I am not a fan. I like the hair, and I like the idea of the make up but I think that shadow is just wrong. My eye is drawn to the shininess of the eyeshadow and it shouldn’t be, I should just be looking at your face and not a particular part. I also think the colour of the shadow is a bit off, either that or it’s not blended enough which makes it look muddy. I think close to your eye and the outer corners are good but the inner corner and below your eyebrow need something changed.
Sorry!! I love the hair and I love the make up otherwise!

With that eyeshadow coloring, and your lovely eyes, I would do a red lipstick! I think it would be stunning.
If you don’t want to do a red lipstick, I would say change the eyeshadow color to something in the range of light lilac/grey or eggshell with cool brown. You have similar skin/eye/hair coloring to me and I could recommend some exact shades if you’re interested.

I like it. My only suggestion is a little bit more color in the lips.

Thank you so much for the feedback ladies!
I actually really liked the pink lipgloss, which you can only really see in the first pic. What color eye make up do you think would well with that?
Thanks! I think so too – I won’t be speeding down the highway until everything is over on my wedding day, so I think that is a good sign lol
Thank you! I want a veil and some sort of headpiece, but I don’t know what. I might start another thread for that later lol.
Thanks 🙂 That may be the case… I typically don’t wear much (or any) make up, so I am not sure. It might just be my lovely eye bags lol.
Thank you! I will have eyelashes on the day – none here though!
@Future Mrs K:
Thanks for your opinion! I actually don’t have a lot of hair, thickness wise, so this felt like it made the most of it 🙂
No worries! I really appreciate your opinion, and I feel the same way about the eyeshadow color. Thank you for your helpful tips 🙂
Oooh, red lipstick would be fun, but I don’t think it would fit our more laidback outdoor wedding (also, don’t know if I am brave enough hehe). For the pink lipgloss, those suggestions are great! Thank you so much, and exact shades would be WONDERFUL!
Thanks 🙂 I am planning on buying the gloss to keep on hand so I can re-up it regularly.

Bump for my morning bees 🙂 I want as many opinions as possible before i decide to commit!

Morning? Good evening!
Ok, I really like the make up. I too however would opt for a lip colour with a little more red in it. Something about your hairstyle screams 1950’s chic to me so I think a little red is fitting! I think she’s done a lovely job on your eyes though, they look beautiful. Are you wearing false lashes?
I think the hairstyle is beautiful but (and I know I keep harping on about this) I think it could benefit from a little more volume around the crown. The hair is beautiful and intricate at the back but the effect is a little more lost from the front because it looks flatter. I also think a little more volume will bring out your lovely cheekbones!
I hope this hasn’t come across as negative….I really didn’t mean it to!

LOL, I should have said “morning (or evening for my fave UK bee!)” 🙂 And no worries – I want honest opinions, and that was constructive, not negative!
I do like the idea of red, but I really wanted to do a softer pink for the wedding, so I think I am going to stick with this gloss (maybe with a bit of a base coat). I am not wearing lashes here, but I will be at the wedding.
I know what you mean about the height at the crown, and believe it or not, this was the effect after lots of teasing! My hair does not like height, apparently. I will ask her to go for more next time though, because I do agree. Thanks so much for your opinion dear!

Your hair – perfection! You look stunning, but honestly…your eyes can use more…pop/ Maybe More mascara…fake lashes…SOMETHING. Because your lower lash line looks like she smudged brown eyeshadow on to give a soft smokey look…and without a strong eyelash it looks unbalanced to me.
Also, maybe a tiny bit more blush and a nice pink lipgloss would make it all come together and take it from a nice natural everyday look to a glowing bridal look.
