I could have saved a lot of money and chose a standard 8×6 oval halo head, with only .4 mm gaps at the side. Instead, I went the custom route, and left my ring for 8 days to have a mold grown to avoid gaps. I specifically discussed this with the jeweler. He said it would be perfect since it was being made specifically to fit my diamond. I saw the wax mold last week and I approved it because I was under the impression it was a mold of the exact size of my diamond. It has been sent for casting now. Imagine my shock when the jeweler sent these design images today! Horrible gaps! I will be so mad if the finished product looks like this! I emailed him and thanked him for the images and said I’m sure my halo will not have any gapping, since we discussed that and that was the reason I paid more for a custom.
What do you think??

@Heidibrooke: I’m confused, where are the gaps? Do you mean there will be a gap between your e-ring and wedding band?

The gaps between the little diamonds? Or the gap between the big diamond and the halo?
I’m also confused.

It looks like the halo is too big for the diamond? I prefer halos when they are snug against the center stone

I think CAD designs often show an airline like that even if there is to be none for the actual ring, but of course the only person who knows for sure is your jeweler.

@Heidibrooke: IF you are referring to the TINY space between your diamond and the diamonds in the halo, just remember that there needs to be space for the prongs of the halo. To eliminate that tiny gap I think that you would need a halo slightly smaller than your diamond and have your center stone kind of set on top of it.

I think its beautiful, personally.

@priyawouldntwannabeya: I think this i what OP is referring too as well. I think it looks really good though – and I don’t like that kind of gap between center stone and halo very much either but I don’t think it will be that dramatic.

@PixelMePretty: The gap between the center stone and halo, it’s very large in these images. Maybe it won’t be like that when he’s finished. I hope! I wouldn’t have paid so much more for it to be a nice fit. :/

@BlondeMissMolly: That is good to know! I didn’t know that, thanks!! I will just hang tight and trust the jeweler.

@misstwinkle: Thank you! It does look like a large gap. I will just wait and see how it turns out.

I see no gaps in the top picture? Are the gaps you’re talking about visible in the top picture? In the bottom picture There is a difference between the edge of the center diamond and the halo diamonds that are slightly underneath. This is so that the halo diamonds appear flush with the center diamond when viewed straigh on. Is that the gap you’re talking about?

I don’t think you’ll be able to see that gap IRL. Fingers crossed for you! LOVE the basket design, BTW 🙂

If you wanted the smallest amount of gappage, you would have needed to get the oval bezel-set within the halo.
