I LOVE when the stone is slightly big for the halo. I think it looks wonderful!

@mmandylou:  It is not a traditional halo and for that reason I think it’s interesting, besides being pretty.

But if you don’t like it, get it exchanged whil presumably there is time for that at no cost.

it does look like your diamond is overtaking the halo. I was told I would have the same problem if I went any bigger with my center stone. My center stone sits snuggly above my halo but does not overtake the halo.  I would keep the center diamond and try to switch on the halo setting if you can!

I also have a round center with a halo and split shank. Here is a picture for reference:

@mmandylou:  You have the best of both worlds, a solitaire from one view and a halo from another. Plus your diamond looks huge (not in a bad way). Very unique.

It’s only too big if you think it is.  I think it’s pretty, but I’m not the one wearing it- you are!  If you’d prefer to get it reset into a lower halo that’s more flush, usually the setting has to be custom made for your stone since the fit has to be more precise.  Here’s an example:

Lily_of_the_valley :  your ring it’s perfection!!! I just got mine last week and I am having doubts on something. Would you give me your opinion please☺️? My diamond is 1.60 ct and the setting said round up to 1,57. Now, the halo split shank setting  I bought it’s very similar to yours but was for a round diamond not princess cut like mine. Still, they told me it could be done, so I did it. Do you think the diamond looks like it doesn’t belong? Here are some pictures and thank you in advance for your opinion.

ygring :  I don’t think it looks bad, but I don’t think it’s as cohesive as it could be. It’s fine from the top, a bit awkward from the side. It bothers me that you have an uneven airline in your halo, and how far the stone sits above it. Why did the jeweler not order this style for a princess cut?

MrsAL2012 :  ummm that’s a good point! Thank you for your opinion! I have no idea why they didn’t but I know now the ring brand and style does not come for a princess cut. I had asked them if it would work and they said yes but… Now after receiving it I was doubtful too, that’s why I wanted more opinions. One of the things, I encountered at the jewelry place is that most settings I love and a few that would probably take a 1.60 diamond were 14k and the ones 18k or platinum(what I wanted) were settings for smaller diamonds. Don’t get me wrong the ring in person is outstanding because of the diamond cuts and it beautifully made but I felt unsure on the diamond and setting together. Anyhow thank you so much for your help and opinion.

janeblack :  I understand I apologize, I just recently joined the boards and started reading all threads didn’t think it would be a problem since I see different answers on different years as well.

Thank you!

It certainly doesn’t look like a normal halo. Usually a gem sits down further in the halo – with the middle stone just slightly higher (less than a mm) above the halo that surrounds it. If you want the traditional halo look, you’re not getting it with this setting. It has been built this way – no matter what size stone you put in there, it’s never going to be a traditional halo.
