My heart just hurts today…neighbors, their dog, my dog…

So your husband was going to shoot your neighbors dog, and your neighbors euthanized the dog instead of working on its behavior issues? Is that what I just read?!

I feel sad for the dogs.

Um, I would have called animal control the first time that dog bit. Obviously, they have not trained the dog and have no control over it. Poor Layla. Make sure they pay for all her bills. Honestly, I would even consider suing them.

I’ guessing it’s legal to euthanize your own dog where you live? How sad.

Hopefully you, your layla, your mom and your daughter are all doing well after this trauma. I’m so sorry this has happened. Unfortunately this seems to be a result of their training and treatment of their animal. They obviously felt they no longer had the skills to resolve this issue with their animal. It’s very unfortunate that this dog had these aggression issues, it’s better that they resolve this issue than running the risk of the dog potentially biting anyone else including your child.

It always hurts to let go of an animal, whether it’s old age, disease or an issue like this.

Big hug bee!

Very strange that your husband had a gun on him while nipping over to the neighbours to give them a package.

I agree with the other posters, it’s extremely sad that your neighbour immediately seemed to jump to putting the dog down rather than more training.

Why on earth would you have a known aggressive dog in the yard unattended using only an electric fence? And yes, they should pay for any and all vet bills.

I don’t know the situation, so maybe they did try to work on the dog’s behavior and had come to the point where it was just too dangerous to continue trying, hence euthanasia, but seriously, why allow your aggressive dog to keep getting out?

I’m so sorry bee that all sounds very traumatizing. I can’t believe your neighbour euthanized his own dog. I feel like there are far better ways the situation could’ve been handled. Surrendering it to a shelter, keeping it indoors while having it trained, or, in the very worst case, bringing it to the vet to be euthanized.

My heart aches for all of the puppies involved ♡

KKML125 : I have a feeling you are leaving a LOT of information out of this story. The fact that your husband even found it remotely appropriate to pull out a weapon to shoot another family’s dog is appalling. Instead of an aggressive dog (which apparently isn’t a problem anymore since the poor thing was euthanized instead of put in a training program), I’d be more concerned about your aggressive husband.

If your husband knew that the neighbor had a dog that bites, why did he not just have the neighbor come to your house to pick up the package?  Also, I would stay far away from that neighbor.  Who they hell euth’s their own dog?  That person is not right in the head at all…..

That’s really terrible, I’m sorry. I’ve seen my dog get attacked by another and it is absolutely awful to go through.

I really am shocked at the carelessness of your neighbor. The dog bit 6 people and they didn’t even have a real fence? Just an electric? If my dog bit anyone I would take extreme measures to ensure others’ safety AND my dog’s. They sound like horrible irresponsible pet parents & I hope they don’t get another.

Curious why you say you feel like they’re having their packages purposefully delivered to your house? Why would they do that?

We had a neighbor who’s daughter had a very sweet Great Dane. She was beautiful and gentle. They had a baby and one day the dog kind of made a beeline for the baby and the next day they euthanized her. I was shocked that such extreme action was taken without any attempts to rehome the dog.
