I cannot even believe this happened. We went out to dinner with a friend last night, and either when we left or when we came home he snuck out. He is a totally indoor, beautiful maine coon, and decided that he wanted to go out last night. Well, there has been a small fox runnign around our neighborhood the last couple of weeks, and this morning we came out to leave for work and saw fur all over the front yard. Our.cat’s.fur!!! But no blood. I didn’t realize til I came home for lunch that it was my cats fur, so I called hubs and he left work early and I stayed home so we could look for him. We have both been crying all day since, spent 3 hours on our bikes riding around the neighborhood putting up fliers and talking to the neighbors. No one has seen him, but they have all seen the fox. We saw the fox in our yard when we got home, and hubs tried to chase after him but of course he was too fast. He didn’t look like he had eaten anything, so I’m hoping they just fought and the cat ran away. Ugh, this sucks soooooo bad, i just want him to come back!!!!

I’m so sorry! Keep us updated and in the mean time I’ll be thinking about you and your kitty and hoping he comes back! Maybe he’s just waiting until he knows the fox isn’t in his way to get back to the house.

Thanks, I’m hoping the same thing. He lost a good amount of fur, but he has a lot to begin with so I’m really hoping that it doesn’t mean much. I am ging to call animal control in the morning to get a trap for the fox, and hubs got a bb gun from his dads house so in case he sees it again. Luckily, if we can trap him, the county by law has to put it down cuz of the risk of rabies, so at least it won’t hurt anything else. I just wish we knew where our kitty was, I’m sure hes so scared and just wants to come home

Not a good week for the kitties! 🙁
Sending positive thoughts that he’ll be home soon!

Hugs to you! And like Birdie Love said….it isn’t a good week at all for kitties.

I will pray for his safe return. If you haven’t already, notify your local animal shelters in case someone finds him.

I hope everything is okay. If you don’t see any blood, it’s possible that they just got in a fight and lost some hair. My old kitty got lost around my dad’s house for about a week but they found him (he was a bit worn out and sick but overall okay). I would let all the local vets and shelters know that you lost him in case someone finds him.

Oh I really hope he’s okay! Please keep us updated! FI and I got a kitten a month ago and I’m currently in training and away from home for the first time since we got her. I miss her terribly! I hope he’s okay. 🙁

My Fiance and I’s kitty took off a while ago. We thought it was to die, she was quite old. She was gone for 10 days and came back very sickly, but came back. I’d be careful of the fox. Was it daylight when you saw him? Be careful getting close to it, it may be rabid.

Doesn’t sound like a rabid fox, sounds like he’s just hungry. I think it would be a double tragedy to kill the fox. It’s not like he came and stole the cat from your house…doesn’t sound like he’s a danger to anyone either. I just hope you don’t trap and kill the fox, when he did nothing wrong!
I’m sorry your kitty is missing. But if the fox got to (him? her?) there would have been blood. So try looking up trees, under cars, in all the nooks and crannies around your house. He may just be hiding, waiting for the coast to be clear. I hope he comes back home!

Thanks everyone! He is microchipped, and I am calling around today to Animal Control to see if anyone found him yet. As far as the fox goes, yes its a shame that they would have to kill it (and we have gotten pretty close and its definitely not rabid) but if it is caught in a trap then by law they have to put it down. Same with raccoons and possums and that kind of thing. While I do not want the fox to die, there are a lot of household pets around here with owners who don’t have fences and don’t keep very good watches on them, and honestly I would rather a fox die then a dog or cat cuz the fox is hungry. And especially since he is living in a residential neighborhood, there is a chance that he will become used to humans and start having dangerous encounters if he gets too hungry. There are just too many dangers with a fox running around the neighborhood. I would much rather them catch and release him somewhere else, but you can’t argue with the law.
@MightySapphire: actually Mighty, that’s exactly what he did. I know that the cat got out, and was probably ourside the house crying to get in, and the fox heard and came after him. The fur in our front yard tells the story. We have a big mole problem around here too, I just wish he would focus on the moles instead of our pets!!
