I’m so sorry hon. I just had to put down our dog this afternoon after a two month battle with cancer, so I know how you’re feeling. Big hugs for you. πŸ™

I’m so sorry. I know how important pets are in our lives, and Candy sounds like she was a lovely dog.

Losing a beloved pet is very hard.  I’ve been through the heartache many times.  It does get easier, I promise.  One thing that always helps to ease the pain is the beautiful Rainbow Bridge poem.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent. Her eager body quivers. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.

I’m so sorry. I teared up just reading this – its the absolute hardest part of being a pet owner. She is so lucky to have had you there with her, loving her until the last minute. Hang in there.

Oh no, I’m crying at this! My dog had to be put to sleep in Jan. 2011. I thought I would never feel happy again. The only thing that helps is time passing. I know how you feel.

@nmmitche:  Oh no!  I’m terribly sorry to hear this.  I can only imagine how you feel.  I know it’s going to be absolutely heartbreaking when I lose my maltese.  πŸ™  I wish I could offer you more comfort, but please know we are all here for you.  I ache for your loss as well.

(hugs)

ETA – I totally cried reading this heartbreaking story as well.

I’m so so so sorry…my heart is breaking for you.  We had to do the same thing in 2007, and it took years until I finally felt like my heart had healed.  There will always be a little place for my first, childhood dog, but I know that I will see him again.  I thought that I would never want another poodle (he was a black one), but I did get one 2 years later.  It helped fill the hole in my heart.  The only thing that will help is time, but until then, take time to grieve.  You will get better…I promise.  It will take time.

I’m so sorry.  I know how hard it is to lose a pet in your own arms.  Please take comfort in the fact that you were with her and you gave her a wonderful loving life.  Time will help you heal, I promise.  πŸ™
