sunnierdaysahead2 :  I’m not sure how it works, but it seems like there has to be some way to confirm that the stone currently in the setting is or is not the same stone on your GIA cert.

desertgypsy :  I half wonder if she took the ring to a jeweler herself just to find out if it was a real diamond or not..maybe that’s why she stole it.

sunnierdaysahead2 :  I am so glad to see this update as I remember your ogirinal post. Something definitely seems sketchy about her but to keep the peace in the family I’d just say thank you (which you already did) and move on.

If it is a GIA certified stone, likely there is a number lasered on the girdle. You need a loupe to see it. Also the inclusions etc…may be noted on the certificate. It’s easy enough to check those against the stone. Any jeweler would be happy to check for you. Takes about five minutes and I’m sure they’d do it for free.

winterash :  That is taking competitive to a whole new level but from everything sunnierdays has said, that might be the case!

What the hell?! I’d be furious and so unlikely to ever trust her again. I would have been devistated and the fact the she just brushed it off and asked how you would repay her. She seems like a really treat – you have more patience than I do, because I would have been super petty about it.

winterash :  I think she’s clearly jealous of OP.

Not to mention who knows if she stole it to see if it was “better” than hers. Girl sounds like a freak show.

Glad this was resolved it’s shady for sure. Either she truly found it accidentally or she had it the whole time probably jut torturing you. Maybe the guilt got to her.

im curious though how does this work now that you have another ring ? Did you go through insurance? Do you have to give the new ring back or something ?

sunnierdaysahead2 :  She wanted to surprise your FI’s brother by telling him she found YOUR ring? Ehm. Sounds like she wants some kind of “reward” for “finding” the ring. Honestly sounds like she tried to steal it and thought better of it. Ew…

Regardless, I’m super happy you got your ring back!
