I don’t think you will ever know what really happened but there is that chance that she may have a real problem and needs some form of clinical help. I feel for her husband. He may have had to “cover” for her on other occasions. There is always the uncomfortable possiblity that he found it in her posession upon his return from the trip and that was why there was no earlier phone call and she either lied and said she just found it or he discovered she had it all along and he forced her to do the right thing and return it. Either way I would be cautious around her. I agree that if they come to visit they should stay in a hotel and not with you.

I’m glad you are getting your ring back and that you have a supportive husband. You rings are lovely By The Way.

To the OP, I’m a dog owner of multiple breeds and there is no way the dog took it and moved it around and kept it in its bed like a treasure for several months. They don’t have the motor skills to put something so tiny in their mouths and not swallow it and they’re not attracted to shiny things like that (like a fish would be). So it just wouldn’t have been in the dog bed, no way. To that end, I’ve actually never seen any of my dogs go for a non-food item except shoes (and a sofa, which was both infuriating and impressive) and the only non-food items my dogs have ever actually swallowed are dead bugs. Not saying it doesn’t accidentally happen, because it does, but I’m just saying that the dog no matter how smart or how dim-witted would just not have the wherewithal to purposefully go for your ring and hide it. She’s making that dog out to be Gollum, like damn. 😂

ANYWAY sorry your SIL is sketch af, don’t trust her.

I don’t for one second  believe The Dog Did It but my dog has a bed where  a ring or something could easily have got down between the walls and the ‘floor’ of it and stayed there without her consciously  keeping it as it were ( kind of funny to think of her deliberately hiding something like that, poor baby hasn’t got a clue)   .

Mind you , even a cursory  search would have turned it up.
