Maybe calmly explain to her that you are very much NOT ok with that and if she would please refrain from doing it around you and your son/family it would be greatly appreciated.
I would be really mad too. Just try to ignore her and remember that she lives 14 hours away and you wont have to put up with her very often. Try not to let her behavior ruin your wonderful day!! Good Luck!
@teabiscuit: THC affects parts in the brain that control memory, coordination and unconscious muscle movements (like split second reactions). It acts in many ways, like alcohol does in these parts of the brain. It’s a depressant and really can impair driving and cause accidents, so that part can absolutely hurt people. Not trying to be snarky, just saying THC absolutely doesn’t improve driving.
Definately not ok to show up in front of kids high:/
@anchors_away: I understand. Its just that people do react to it differently, if the person is out of it obviously they should not be driving. Sort of like having 1 vs 5 drinks.
@aliavenue: Well, I view illegal vs immoral as different. In some countries it is legal and more and more countries are decriminalizing or legalizing it. I was not rude in my reply so I dont appreciate rudeness back.
ETA : I do belive that you have absolutely every right to tell her not to do this in your home.
@teabiscuit: Agreed- it’s absolutely viewed different ways in different countries, even within different states in the US! Sometimes I just don’t think people fully understand how it works within their brain to affect them!
OP- could Fiance speak with his Mom about this not being an okay way to be around the kids? I guess she’s an adult, you can’t force her to not do it, but you sure can make sure she’s never like that around your child!
“Do you think it was dangerous for her to be driving? If anything, most people who smoke end up driving more carefuly. “
What you are saying is not logical, how would someone who is high drive more carefully? Taking a drug that alters your state of mind and behavior then operating a machine that weighs several thousands pounds is dangerous and stupid. Someone who is high reflexes won’t be the same as when they are sober. I seen the effects of weed on various people and I would be just as quick to take their keys like i would from someone who had been drinking.
“Which part of it upsets you?”
I’m going to take a wild guess and say its her Future Mother-In-Law putting her life and others in danger by driving in that conditoin. Not to mention coming into her home most likly smelling like what I assumed is weed in front of her child.
“Sorry, I just have liberal views on this sort of thing. As long as people are not hurting anybody I think it should be legalized.”
I’m a fairly liberal person yet I see why the op is upset and really don’t see what your views on the law have to do with her being upset by fmil actions. By the way she is harming others and putting their life at risk by driving in that state.
@op you have every right to be upset. I say talk to your Fi and make it clear to him that next time Future Mother-In-Law shows up like that, you guys take her keys, call a cab, and she goes sleep at nearest hotel. She has no right to expose your three old to her in that state.
@aliavenue: Good! Not to be a creeper, but from some of your other posts you sound like you’re an awesome Mom so I can totally understand why this mad you so mad. I hope you guys get it sorted out- is it out of the blue? Obviously she’s never been like this around you before, but Fiance wasn’t surprised?
@TwoCityBride: I just read the post, and was not clear on what part she found upsetting. I was just stating what I thought, explainign why I wanted her to clarify which part she as upset with because I have a different opinion so I wanted her to state hers, not telling her how to feel. I dont get why Im being attacked?
