A long story, but, hey if you wanna read it…..
This post isnt to praise or bash moissanite, just simply share my experience with others who have curiosity about the stone. Last fall, i developed an obsession with wanting to change my riNg. Honestly, i dont know where this came from, maybe a friend drilling in my head that i didnt like it because she didnt think it was my style. (I like thin, dainty bainds, & my ering the band was thick and blinged out.). I loved it when Darling Husband picked it out, and i know he was proud of it and spent his hard earned money getting me a diamond engagement ring that sparkled from a mile away.
it was pretty challenging to find wedding bands, but eventually i found two eternity bands that worked well. Two months later, i lose a stone out of one of my bands & i told Darling Husband i just wanted whole new set and look. So i started scouring the internet searching for unique rings & i found weddingbee.
there were so many posts about this thing called moissanite!! Everyone’s rings were stunning. I researched it for a few months and made many posts asking questions about size, etc. i figured i wanted a round solitaire, just because it was classic and simple, and totally different from what I had. I dont think i had unrealistic expectations of it looking just like a diamond, i have aquamarines in my wedding band. As soon as i ordered the stone, i kind of felt like i was cheating on my original, but i was still excited.
i picked it up from the post office and i sped home, ready to see my precious. I had ordered a loose stone to make sure that i liked it first, i was going to return it to be set. i ordered a 2ct FB moissanite. When i opened the package and took out the stone, i immediately noticed the double rainbows. i had never said anything to Darling Husband about the properties of the stone and that was the first thing he noticed and said- that it was throwing off rainbows and looked wierd. I wasnt expecting it to behave exactly like a diamond, but i didnt expect it too look SO different either. It also was really yellow looking to me. Darling Husband thought so too, but i thought it was just thr lighting under our bar. I took it outside and it still looked really yellow. Here is a picture of it next to my diamond engagement ring.
i also noticed the moissanite to look glassy and shallow compared to the deepness of my diamond ring. In the picture, the moissy actually looks super white (maybe from the flash?) but IRL that is not the case. I brought the stone to my mother to see & while she said it was pretty, she didnt think it was worth the amount i paid for it. I returned it thr next day which was an easy process & a little over a week later my money was put back into my bank account. This experince has made me love my original ring even more, i got it cleaned last night and it looks brans new. Plus, i know that it was picked out with love :). Just wanting to let any bees in the same boat have some more information about moissys, they’re just something you have to see in person to know if you like. i definitely dont think it can be passed off as a diamond, but maybe the differences are more visible in the larger sizes. I guess i am just a diamond gal (:
