I’ve been lurking on this board for ages and finally joined today. I do not own a diamond; my partner bought a moissanite ring recently and when it arrived, it looked a bit dull and didn’t sparkle. I went for moissanite over diamond because I have heard of how sparkly it is so I was a little surprised. Have I received a dud or were my expectations too high?
Here is what it looks like most of the time:

Where is it from? It should be SUPER sparkly!

I ordered a loose NEO moissanite and thought the same thing. It had this weird, opaque, plastic-y look to it, so I sent it back. Maybe I also had different expectations too, but I was not a fan.

Also wondering where you got it. The cut looks off – like it could be a dud? Definitely doesn’t look the way the RBs and H&As do from C&C.

Nope. Just looked at mine in the near dark and it’s still sparkling like mad. Where’s it from?

Here is a video of a moissanite FB and in different lighting
I almost want to say that yours might not be genuine.

I have a moissanite pendant and I thought the same thing, that it didn’t sparkle nearly as much as others have claimed. It certainly did not have the disco ball effect that everyone talks about. Mine is a FB with a C&C certificate so I’m assuming mine is genuine. I didn’t send it back because for what I paid I didn’t think it was worth it.
Since this is your engagement ring, I would see if you can exchange it.

Thanks everyone. This ring was bought from moissanite.co.uk. There are very few moissanite retailers in the UK, or perhaps I just don’t know how to find them. This came with the c&c certificate and box so I assumed it was genuine.

@filoux how long ago was it purchased? if it was one of the classics [first roll out] it may not have the best cut or color. That looks gray to me, but it may be the lighting. If it came with a c&c plastic warranty card then it should be original. I can’t speak for paper certifications though sorry.

Have you tried different lighting? Sometimes my diamond looks blah in certain lights but sparkles like a disco ball in others. Also, make sure it’s clean. Even a little bit of body oil or cream smudges can make a huge difference.

I got mine from Charles & Colvard almost 11 years ago and mine sparkles like crazy. It looks white unless in direct sunlight…then it turns a steel grey color but still has colorful sparkles. I’d return yours and go with someone else. Make sure you know who the maker is.

as much as C&C would have us believe- all moissanite is not created equal. there are definitely always a few duds in the bunch when it comes to cut and color.
if you are sentimental about your setting, see if they can swap it for you and ask if they can hand select one.

I ordered mine from C&C and it sparkles like crazy even in the shade. I would try to get it exchanged

Have you tried deep cleaning it? Sometimes when stones are set and the prongs are buffed they can get dirt on them. Try soaking it in hot water with some regular dish soap, then scrub the entire stone with a tooth brush, rinse and pat dry with a lint free cloth or paper towel. See if this helps before sending it back. I used to have a round solitaire from moissaniteco and when I received it, the stone was covered in finger prints and dust which gave it a dull look. So since mine wasn’t cleaned before it was shipped to me, maybe it’s possible that yours wasn’t either.

I got mine from moissanite.co.uk and it’s beautifully sparkly. Was it their pure stone or forever one or vg stone? When I was talking to them they said the pure stone was from a different manufacturer (not C&C like the others) and they felt that they didn’t sparkle as well as the c&c ones. Their customer service is excellent so maybe try calling them?
