So, last night, Fiance and my mom were watching TV. A commercial came on that showed a couple walking by a bridal shop with a wedding dress in the window.
I’ve been very sneaky at wedding dress shopping and Fiance has no clue what kind of dress I’ll wear. When we look at pictures or see dresses, we ask each other what we think of the dress… and leave it at that.
The dress in the window was very similar to my dress.
Fiance naturally pauses the TV and tells me to look at the dress to see what I think.
What does my mom do??? She said – oh, that looks just like your dress.
I tried to play it off, saying – No it doesn’t… but Fiance was quiet and knew how annoyed I was at my mom.
I told my mom later that Fiance didn’t know anything about my dress and she acted all surprised. I think she really didn’t know she wasn’t supposed to say anything… but, seriously?!?!?!?
I’m sooooo bummed out.

He’s only seen the dress for a second…on TV not even in a good picture. Plus he’s never seen it on you. I’m sure by the time you get married he’ll have forgotten what it looks like. My Fiance has seen my and it’s hanging in our guest room and I’m sure he still couldn’t pick it out of a lineup.

@camrie – I sure hope you are right…. they saw the dress and then he went back on the DVR and paused it for awhile – that’s how my mom and he got talking about it (as they waited for me to come into the room).

If that happened, the next day my Fiance would not be able to identify the dress. Also, it was just a dress that “looked” like your dress not your actual dress, and it wasn’t on you, and he didn’t see it in person.
He still will be totally surprised and happy to see you on your wedding day. Its more about the surprise of seeing you in a white dress, then the actual dress.

Don’t worry about it..it’s not your dress…my Fiance saw a picture of me in the sample dress and I was upset at first but realized he would forget and that he actally couldn’t know what it would look like on since the dress didn’t even fit right. I am sure your guy will be absolutely stunned the day he sees you in your gown 🙂

I think I’m most upset because he had no idea what type of dress I’d be wearing (ie: strapless, halter, off the shoulder).
My dress is strapless and I know he doesn’t think I’d wear a strapless in a million years (even though I know that’s his preference)…. so I wanted to surprise him with the strapless… and the dress on TV was definitely strapless with a similar bottom as mine. Phooey.

I think he will be amazed either way. I would not worry at all and don’t be too mad at your mom.

I really would not worry about it. It is going to look completely different on your body and he will most likely forget what the dress in the video looked like.

I can see why you would feel annoyed but no matter what, nothing is going to prepare him for how it will feel when he sees you in a wedding dress for the first time! 🙂
My fiance doesn’t want to know anything about my dress — and although I don’t want him to know either — I like to look at different style dresses with him to see what he thinks is pretty. But he doesn’t even like to do that now…so I’m in total darkness on my taste! haha We also will not see each other till I walk down the aisle…
By The Way — will be getting married the day after you! 🙂

I agree with the others. He didn’t see YOUR dress. He hasn’t seen it ON YOU, and that makes all the difference in the world. I mean, you know how even the same dress can look totally different on two people, right? I bet it will look even more terrific on you. And, after all, he’s in love with you. It’s you he’ll be seeing on your wedding day. Do you think for an instant that he’ll be standing at the end of the aisle going “Hmmm, that dress does have a strong resemblance to the television dress?” Of course not. All eyes and brain synapses will be on YOU. Don’t sweat it, just remind Mom that mum is the word for all else! =-)
