My mom is the same way. So are all of her six sisters.  When I hear her talking to one of them, I get so angry because they are sharing stuff about their kids (my cousins) and it is always super personal stuff you only tell your parents. For example: who is having trouble getting pregnant, who has bad credit and is having trouble getting a mortage for their dream home….

I hear it all and I told my mom right out about 5 years ago. “Mom if you tell anyone my personal info without asking me first, I will never share anything with you again”  It put a stop to it, for me anyway. Now she only shares the good news and fun stuff. Too bad my cousins haven’t figured out how to deal with my aunts (their moms) and I wonder if they know how much the family knows about their lives :-/

My mother is a great lady but she spills her guts fast and often – the truth is I want to tell her alot more than I do but I just don’t want it getting around to my other family members.

My lesson learned was when I had food poisoning and literally shit my pants after I passed out in the hotel lobby. I called and told her but asked her not to tell anyone because I was REALLY embarassed. My entire family knew before I checked out the next day.

I feel your pain…

And this is why I don’t tell my mother anything. She gossips about me behind my back constantly. I guess you learned your lesson and I just hope this doesn’t cost you embarrassment in the future.

This is the exact reason that I have less communication with my parents. You need boundaries and both of my parents are blabber mouths.

My parents love to talk also..I dont tell them very much now because they go tell the whole world like they have nothing better to talk about. It drives me crazy!!!!

I think she knows she did something wrong, just dosn;t want to admit to it.

I never tell my mother anything due to her blabbing and/or being judgemental.

My mom is completely the same way… Even worse, she’ll tell her family (who lives far away) things they don’t need to know, nor ever would (like when I was living with my ex) and then is upset when “they view her negatively because I live with my boyfriend.”

I feel your pain, but I think @soonergirl518 has the right idea… it’s going to be the two of you as a team from now on… and if that means respectfully telling your mom that there are things you’re not comfortable sharing with her in the future out of respect for your husband, you’re entitled to do so. If she disagrees you can remind her of this little incident. My heart goes out to you!

I know the feeling… I told my Mother-In-Law we had a miscarriage and she told everyone…. Including the BiIL who we don’t talk to because of family politics, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. I agree with @sonnergirl518.

My mom is exactly like this too. Hang in there and just adopt a policy of keeping some things secret, no matter how bad you feel at first.
