So whenever I was planning my wedding I knew I wanted a naked cake! I found a few threads on here about it but I just wanted to add this in case anyone is thinking about tackling this project themselves! 🙂
My mom is amazing with DIY, I always tell people she is like Martha Stewart with a better personality. She also made my sister’s cake when she got married and so she jumped at the opportunity to make my cake as well. Here was the final product!
My mom spent the Friday night before the wedding (my wedding was on a Sunday) painstakingly baking, leveling, icing, and dusting the cake with sugar. Each tier was carefully wrapped in Saran separately and then the cake was transported to my reception venue Sunday morning where she assembled it and finished it off with the succulents she also hand made from food safe modeling clay And topped it with a hand made white chocolate “doilly”. The flavor of the cake was blueberry lemon with a cream cheese icing, and it was insanely insanely good! I still have guests shooting me messages asking which bakery I used. The edges of the cake also stayed moist (sorry for that word) and we had no problems with dryness, which I know is a concern with this type of cake!
As a side note I actually purchased the cedar stab we used as a cake stand! I sanded it and sealed it myself with satin finish mixwax (there was foil under the cake to keep it from touching the stand) and after the wedding was over I added hair pin legs to it and turned it into a night stand!

Wow! I entered this thread prepared not to like your cake, since I’ve seen some naked cakes that have left me thinking “Why….???” However, your cake is gorgeous! Amazing! It looks delicious, too!
Whose idea was it to make the succulents? They couldn’t be any more perfect, first as the decoration for this cake and, second, in terms of the professional-looking manner in which they are made. Steller job!
