I think you have the exact figure that compliments a mermaid dress. You’re curvy in an hourglass shape and your curves are in perfect proportion for that dress. I think hourglass ladies look beyond beautiful in mermaids – they are so suited for that shape, unlike my pear shape.

Say thanks but no thanks to your mum and strut that aisle like the queen you are.

moveslikejagr :  go get your mum some glasses because you look smoking and she needs to see she is sooo wrong on that assumption!!

I’m sorry that your mum is making you feel less than. Her judgement and inability to accept that you are OK with your weight is terrible. I hope she learns to look into and not at you to see the beauty.(although you look outwardly beautiful just by looking at the picture you posted)

you look great in that dress but the only thing that will make it better is the beautiful beaming smile of a woman who feels confident happy in herself!!! It sounds like you are already there… Wear your dress and wear your  smile. Don’t believe a word she says. Her opinion is a reflection of her, not you.  Xxx

That looks so good on you. I can’t even find any in my size to try on. I want to just order one anyway but my sister keeps telling me I’ll look like a “grape stuck in a straw” becuase I’m apple shaped. IDK what to do either

You look amazing! I have a very similar dress, I’m a plus sized lady. I think I look amazing in mine too, not going to lie haha. Your mum is wrong.

I’m not a fan of labels – all I see is a beautiful hourglass figure. I think you can def pull off that gown!

moveslikejagr :  you look amazing. You rock that dress, and you are going to be a stunning bride.

Im also plus-sized, but I didn’t let that deter me from any style. I happened to pick a dress with more flow, but that’s because one of my priorities for my dress was comfort. I’d be afraid I’d sit down in a mermaid gown and my fat ass would bust out the seams.

Your mum is not ‘wrong’ but she’s not ‘right’ either. It’s just a matter of taste. Maybe she feels this dress is a bit showy- but it’s you who’s wearing it!  I don’t think the mermaid is for everyone, for example I think apple shaped women do not look their best in mermaid gowns (no matter how slim/large). But your shape suits the dress really well. Having tried that dress, I found it was quite slimming as mermaids go. The pleats on it are perfect. You could wear this as much as anyone else could.

BUT I did notice all the comments are saying- ‘go bee, wear a mermaid, you look great, buy this dress! I just wanted to point out that there might be more to this than your size.

For what it’s worth, my mum didn’t like the Divina either (and I’m a US side 4). She thought the bottom of it looked rough and tacky, like rags, or that I’d look like a flamenco dancer. She was subtle but clearly hated it! It is quite a love or hate dress. There may well be an element of taste involved here as much as anything. I found the Divina online and got obsessed..I searched like mad for this dress to try on (in the UK this involved hours on the phone !!) but at the end of the day the fact my mum didn’t like it just killed it for me. I couldn’t bring myself to go for it with her being so un-keen- I’m not pushover and I was 40 years old but I wanted my mum at least to like my dress a bit! That’s not a petty consideration. (That and the crazy length of the Divina which would have meant cutting half of it off to even be able to wear it, which seemed a waste of money to me). But I think it photograaphs beautifully and I still like it! My advice is to try on a few more dress, including mermaids and check it’s not EVERY mermaid that your mum hates on you; it might just be this one.

moveslikejagr :  I’ve never heard of the Maggie Davina dress, so I googled it. The model for it is probably a size 0-2, and all I could think was ‘oh it looks so much better on the WeddingBee girl!’

i think you’ve found the ‘one’ here. I just hope your mom realizes how good it looks on you. I know how much you want your mom to like it.

I’m sorry but don’t listen to your mom. You look great. Your waist is so defined and it gives you a great hourglass shape.  Beautiful!
