oh no! so sorry to hear that! What a horrible way to have them stolen, too! I cannot believe the lack of a conscience that some people have…

My grandma’s house was broken into, years ago, and they took all of her jewelry. (Apparently there was a fair bit of it, and I would have inherited some of it.)

@terryal87:  That aweful, I’m so sorry to hear that.

If you haven’t already, file a report with the police and alert the airline.

(( HUGS )) this is truly a sad sad story (for you and your mom)

I am very very sorry for your loss

Personally, I don’t trust my checked bags at all when I drop em off at the Airport Check-In … as over the years they’ve been lost sooo many times.

I honestly always have a back up plan for “What IF I NEVER see them again”

So ya, I don’t ever put anything of value in a checked suitcase

As recommended, I carry ALL MY VALUABLES on me in my purse / carry on.

I am so sorry.  It is insane how people can steal things so easily.  I assume the airline has some sort of fine print protecting their theiving employees, but you should try to file a complaint anyway.

Probably stolen by TSA workers.  There are so many reports of that lately.  It could be baggage handlers, but I tend to think it would be TSA because when they are x-raying the baggage for security they can see valuables.  Some random baggage person isn’t as likely to dig through an unknown bag for unknown stuff.  Someone looking with an X-ray knows just where the stuff is and probably what it is (jewelry) and can grab it easily.

Check out this facebook where people submit their experiences with TSA – tons of people reporting things stolen and nothing is ever done about it!

So sorry to hear about this.

Yeah, never put anything in your checked luggage that’s valuable or irreplaceable.  Aside from the possibility of items being stolen, your bag could be lost.  My sister once had a suitcase go missing for several months when she was returning home from an international trip.  They eventually returned it to her, but she had already given up hope.

I’m sorry to hear that your pearls have gone missing. 🙁  That’s terrible.

You might start checking the local pawnshops. The person who stole them is probably not going to keep them and wear them – chances are they want to turn them around for cash.

Have you filed a police report? The airline needs to know that this is not acceptable, and the police need to start investigating. Once they show up, you’ll start getting answers… more likely to get answers that way than by posting on facebook, anyway!

@terryal87:  alert the airline immediately.  it may not be their fault as baggage handlers dont do much looking, but i walk thru the bagroom here everyday and see tsa going thru people’s stuff after its scanned.  the airline will investigate to make sure they are not at fault.  those rooms are on camera.  if it’s tsa, i would fight hard.

also, involve the police.  if you really want to light a fire you could always alert local media.

@terryal87:  eugh, stuff like this makes me SO angry. That there are worthless people who just take other peoples treasured belongings

but i agree 100% call airline, police, put the infortmation out there (social media etc). I doubt theyd look at the cameras if you didnt make a fuss

good luck!
